What the author fails to mention here is that it was in fact Al Gore brought the issue up during the Democrat primaries. Talk about Inconvenient Truths.

For those who might not remember, during the 1988 presidential campaign, Republican George H. W. Bush ran ads against Democrat Michael Dukakis that featured the face of Willie Horton, an African-American man.

The Bush ad I saw didn't show Willie Horton's face. It showed a bunch of convicts going through a gate (turnstile?).
