What about people with heart disease? Lung cancer? Have you any idea what the government spends each year on other preventable diseases? How much money could taxpayers save on cardiac research funding if people just exercised right and ate healthy diets?
So again, I repeat my question: Why do posters on FR treat HIV/AIDS differently?
Probably because of the GLBT agenda to make their lifestyles, which predispose them to a fatal disease, socially, morally, and physically mainstream; this agenda is foisted on people's children in schools. If you think that there is no anger directed toward the GLBT communities because of this, you are mistaken.
If smokers and fat people pushed their lifestyles on school kids, imagine the anger.
It's clear that you'd like someone to admit being bigoted against the GLBT lifestyle, or "catch" some poor poster in a statement that indicates to you they are bigoted. What are you going to do, if that happens? Jump all over them?
Ok, I'll just lay it right out there. I'm a female, I'm a smoker. I DELIBERATELY won't buy anything that is breast cancer pink. I'm SO sick of hearing about breast cancer! Yes, it's horrible. We get it. But it isn't the only disease on the planet.
I didn't complain about money. To study and work on the AIDS virus is valuable in what information it brings. The same applies to various cancers. What I object to is the high moral outrage, the blame to society, that WE haven't conquered AIDS. It's the attitude that WE aren't doing enough, we don't care enough, and we're horrible bigoted people for not throwing every cent we have into it.
That's why.
As a fat guy myself, I can report that there is no sympathy here for people who have various conditions due to their own gluttony and sloth.
I feel the same way about smokers, now that the effects are well docutmented, at least on the smokers themselves. I've got a brother and a couple of sisters in law who have that particular vice. It's not nearly so deadly as AIDS, but deadly enough, if slower.
