That is the greatest and saddest irony of the whole tawdry story. Obama had a real shot at victory as long as your average white Democrat and Independent thought he was just another more-or-less patriotic liberal with a slightly darker shade of skin. Now, he can't win with the albatross of this crazy preacher man hanging around his neck. Hillary will either wrest the nomination away from him via the superdelegates, or he will get crushed by McCain in the fall. This will provide more fuel for more paranoid, angry sermons at more black churches, and make it even less likely that any black man coming from such a background would ever be trusted with power by white America.
