ALBANY - Gov. Eliot Spitzer has been caught on a federal wiretap arranging to meet with a high-priced prostitute at a Washington hotel last month, according to a person briefed on the federal investigation.

An affidavit in the federal investigation into a prostitution ring said that a wiretap recording captured a man identified as Client 9 on a telephone call confirming plans to have a woman travel from New York to Washington, where he had reserved a hotel room. The person briefed on the case identified Mr. Spitzer as Client 9.

Mr. Spitzer today made a brief public appearance during which he apologized for his behavior, and described it as a “private matter.”

“I have acted in a way that violates my obligation to my family and violates my or any sense of right or wrong,” said Mr. Spitzer, who appeared with his wife Silda at his Manhattan office. “I apologize first and most importantly to my family. I apologize to the public to whom I promised better.”

All I am hearing on a Rochester NY radio station is every anchor, guest, caller talking as if at a funeral and it’s all “poor poor baby”.

Yes, I was just thinking about the FISA aspect too.

Watch for Dingy Harry and Bug-Eyes Pelosi to send up bills to hamstring security somehow.

This just came out of the blue. Let’s not forget that he wanted to give illegals driver’s license.

I wonder if he was thinking about supporting Obama. This could be a politcal Arkancide in progress.

Did you know Client #9 was caught in the Mayflower Hotel (don't these guys read any books) and that Patterson, the man who will become Governor tonight when Spitzer resgins, is a black man who is blind?

Mississippi's primary is going to be interesting.

Well, Rochester’s a blue bit, so I’m not surprised. But with all the people and jobs leaving Upstate, you’d think the blue bits would get a clue...

I reckon so. But expensive whores is not as disturbing as old McGreevey hiring his concubine as head of Homeland Security. Of course, not sure how deep Swallower is involved with the ring yet.

This being media-drenched America, the hooker is now a millionairess. All that needs to be decided is what magazines she’ll pose for, and what sleazy reality show she’ll appear on.

New series on Bravo...Millionaire Mistresses.

“I’m disappointed that his wife stood there with him, when she should have been back in Albany, packing his crap and leaving it out on the front lawn of the governor’s mansion!”

Better yet what is apparently the custom in NY City, where the wife or girl friend of the loser throws his stuff out the apartment window while scream at him or about him.

It's worked politically before so why not give it a shot?

Second verse same as the first.

"New York's first African American governor and the first who is legally blind."

Aw come on, look further, this guy sounds like a natural for three of four firsts.

How about this first: A good governor?

I’m sure it was a legal wiretap, but I can’t help thinking the dems will blame FISA (and Bush).

Here's his statement:
"Good afternoon.

"For the past nine years, eight years as attorney general, and one as governor, I have tried to uphold a vision of progressive politics that would rebuild New York and create opportunity for all. We sought to bring real change to New York and that will continue.

"Today I want to briefly address a private matter. I have acted in a way that violates my obligations to my family and violates my, or any, sense of right and wrong. I apologize first and most importantly to my family. I apologize to the public, whom I promised better.

"I do not believe that politics in the long run is about individuals. It is about ideas, the public good, and doing what is best for the state of New York. But I have disappointed and failed to live up to the standard I expected of myself. I must now dedicate some time to regain the trust of my family.

"I will not be taking questions. Thank you very much. I will report back to you in short order. Thank you very much."

I just saw Cantessa Brewer nearly brought to tears reporting on Spitzer. "He has a wife and 3 daughters", she lamented to another reporter, him bemoaning wistfully about that condition.

Where is the fair and balanced treatment as referencing Craig, or the republican senator from Louisiana, both of which had children? They were drawn and quartered for their behavior, as they should have been. Now Spitzer gets crocodile tears from the MSM, (excepting Charlie Gasparino on CNBC buisness news). He said a cheer went up on the floor of the trading floor when Spitzer went to the mic.

Where do these guys get off dismissing their families and children and constituents and behave in such a manner and then give the voting public a wrinkled forhead, a broken tone of voice, then walk back behind the curtains and say, "F*** the public." Spitzer, a man who busted 'family men' in prostitution rings trying to get them to cut a deal on fiduciary malfeasance, should get the same consideration.
