Hillary Rodham Clinton was in the midst of her state-wide “listening tour” in anticipation of her run for the U.S. Senate in New York, a state which included 1.3 million Hispanics. Three members of the Congressional Hispanic Caucus — Luis V. Gutierrez (D., Ill.), Jose E. Serrano, (D., N.Y.) and Nydia M. Velazquez, (D., N.Y.) — along with local Hispanic politicians and leftist human-rights advocates, had been agitating for years on behalf of the FALN cases directly to the White House and first lady.

Alas, the actions of some politicians in this country (Hillary, Obama — and perhaps McCain himself on Gitmo) may serve to undermine efforts to combat our country’s enemies. Most of the posts at the Colombian site are anti-communist and anti-socialist in tone. Of those writers — who would be expected to be natural U.S. allies — some do express confidence in the United States. Others, though, are very distrustful of us. After all, who knows what Obama or Hillary may do? I would hope that if the American left were actually to become responsible for U.S. foreign policy (more than they already are), they would greatly cut back on the comfort and encouragement that they give to our enemies. I can’t say that I’m confident about that, though.
