mages used in society reflect the way a culture views disability, said Rosemarie Garland-Thompson, a professor of women's studies and English at Emory University in Atlanta, Georgia.
Garland-Thompson presented a lecture Tuesday that encouraged community members and professionals who attended to view images of disability in a different way. She is a visiting speaker for the first annual Disability Studies Forum.......
Professor urges to review cultural images of disability

Thanks, Les, for the tip.
Last we heard from the news media, all was just dandy. The courts were not to hear the case until very late in the year and the medical authorities were obliged to care for poor Sam until then.
Not so fast when dealing with death enthusiasts. They have the blood lust and won't be satisfied with such a stalemate. They will fight viciously to complete their kill and we must always remind ourselves to be vigilant at all times. This dark force of euthanasia drives on relentlessly, never pausing in the quest.
Here is what is not in the news. They are seeking funds to help in the fight but it would not be proper for me to show this as a solicitation letter, instead as a news item.
Solicitation details edited.

My name is Miriam Geller, and I am the daughter of SAM GOLUBCHUK.
Please forward this email to as many people as possible after
reading.
You recently signed an online petition demanding that the Grace
Hospital of Winnipeg continue providing basic care for SAM, a
disabled World War II veteran who the hospital wanted to let die.
(you may not have signed the petition yet. It can be found here
<http://www.gopetition.com/petitions/save-sam-golubchuk/sign.html>
.
I wanted to thank you for your support, and to update you on the
situation.
As you may recall, last fall SAM, who has been living in a long-term
care facility, came down with pneumonia and had to be moved to
hospital where, thank God, the pneumonia was cured. Unfortunately,
due to his weakened condition, he was been unable to return to his
home. He is currently receiving basic care at the hospital which
includes being given food and water and assistance in breathing
through the use of a ventilator.
In November the hospital, without our permission, attempted to
withdraw this basic care, letting him die. We obtained an emergency
Court Order to stop them from doing this, which they tried - and
failed - to have reversed. We had hoped that this would be the end of
the battle, but now the government is forcing us to return to Court
again as it fights, at taxpayers' expense, to have the Order
overturned.
That's right - the government is still fighting for the right to kill
SAM! If it succeeds, it will have established the right to kill anyone
it deems unworthy of living.
Let me stress that SAM is not in a "vegetative" state, nor is he
suffering from a terminal illness of any kind. The government wants
to end his life because he's old, he's weak and he's disabled and it
doesn't want to spend money on his care - and it's using taxpayers'
money to fund its legal crusade!
SAM is a veteran of World War Two. He joined the army at the age of
16 and served in places like England, Holland and Belgium for six
years. He risked his life fighting murderers who started by killing
their disabled, then killed anyone they didn't like and didn't stop
killing till their government was crushed.
In short, SAM took a stand.
We too have decided to take a stand - but we aren't doing it just for
him. We're also doing it for ourselves, our children and everyone we
care about.
If we let the government kill SAM, it will be able to kill anyone it
thinks is past their "expiry date". Once they start who will stop
them?
WE NEED YOUR HELP NOW MORE THAN EVER!
What we need MOST DESPERATELY RIGHT NOW is money to pay our legal
bills and the fees for the next legal battle to KEEP SAM ALIVE!
Unlike the government, we can't tax anyone to pay these bills.
Instead we're depending on your generosity......
