Don’t Forget Ron Paul
Patterico's Pontifications ^ | March 06, 2008 | Staff

The Austin American-Statesman notes that John McCain has clinched the GOP nomination and all the other GOP hopefuls have dropped out … except Ron Paul:

“President Bush welcomed John McCain to the White House today and hailed him as “the nominee of the Republican Party.”

But while that Rose Garden victory celebration was going on, Texas Republican Rep. Ron Paul — who issued a statement Tuesday night saying he will return to the U.S. House next year — continued a presidential race he now seems to be conceding he cannot win.

“There were 11. Now there are two,” says a posting on Paul’s Web site that shows the crossed-out faces of nine Republican contenders who have dropped out of the presidential race.

In the Tuesday night statement after he won renomination for his U.S. House seat, Paul said, “I have no Democrat opponent in November and will serve another term in Congress where I will continue my battle on behalf of taxpayers.”

He’s not getting much press anymore but Paul’s spokesman vows that Paul will “remain in the (presidential) race and will do so as long as his supporters wish it.” At least one Paul supporter has hope:

“There is a very good chance that John McCain could drop out of the race when enough negative information hits the masses,” a Paul backer said in a Wednesday e-mail. “Ron Paul and his supporters are counting on this. Whether this is realistic or not, only time will tell.”

That’s positive thinking.

Ahh, a goosestepper with a lifetime 82 rating from the ACU. You’re as nuts as the supporter you quoted is.”

Typical ignorant response from a paulistinian.

Your are entitled to your opnion, not the facts.

This guy has bashed the US, he has truthers in his corner, he has support from racial websites, and is antisemetic.
He blames us for 9/11.

Luckily, we Texans don't have to endure any more Ron Paul commercials. You know the ones, the ones where he conveniently forgets to mention his tuck-tail stance on foreign issues because his audience is Texas.

He's still looking for that Time cover. Not to compare his actual achievements to Stassen's, simply the windmill jousting.

Who's the ONE and ONLY rep to vote AGAINST a resolution condemning the rocket attacks on Israel?

Now now, let's congratulate the good Doctor! After all, he at least had more BALLS to publicly state his anti-semitic views, as compared to Seattle's own "Baghdad" Jim McDermott who stands by Paul ideologically on this issue, but didn't have the courage to vote other than "PRESENT"...

"Ahh, a goosestepper with a lifetime 82 rating from the ACU."

Does the ACU take into account that Ron Paul is a blame America firster, frequents Truther radio shows, wants to shrink the US military to one submarine, and echoes Al Qaeda propaganda?

Hell, he gives goose steppers a bad name.

Interesting to note that so many complain that McCain is a Democrat Liberal and that Ron Paul is an ultra conservative, especially given that John McCain has the exact same rating as Ron Paul

Probably off campaigning somewhere, I have no idea. I’ve never had any illusions about Paul. I simply think that what Albert Jay Nock called “the remnant” is an essential part of the right, even though I do not agree with Paul on every issue.

It’s good that Peden has a role somewhere. I have no problem with him.

It just goes to show my father's wisdom: Figures never lie, but liars figure.

I’m glad he’s still in. Without him, there would have been nobody left worth voting for, and I sure as heck was not going to be a nutjob and vote for Hillary.

Ron Paul says and does alot more right than wrong. Obviously there are a lot of neocons who think differently.

Yep.

The House voted 404-1 condemning the rocket attacks against Israel.

Chris is a good guy with a very good, Conservative record. It was sad how he was demonized as a ‘neocon fascist’ by many of his supporters. The threats and harassment he and his family received were unacceptable. He actually sent his kids off to stay with his parents during the campaign because of the threats.

I know where the guy stands. Paulistinian... Bwaaahaaahaaahaaa! You’re funny.

You do know that his anti-Israeli votes are a reflection of his foreign policy beliefs (misguided as they are) and not indicative of a dislike for Israel don’t you? Ah - thought not.

You should read the things at your links before you send them out - a lot of solidly conservative beliefs there for Dr. Paul. And some admittedly nutty ones too.

I just looked it up, it is roll call vote #93.
http://clerk.house.gov/evs/2008/index.asp

If memory serves me correctly, Paul did vote a condemnation of Israel when they retaliated against Lebanon last year (resolution failed).. I’ll go look that up.

This guy would be a disaster nationaly.

He is an isolationist whose mindset is still stuck in the 1800s.

We are not protected by the ocean anymore.
Tha fact that he has truthers and leftists like kucinich supporting him is disturbing.
His followers are the angry face in the crowd and the government conspiracy types.
The fact that he is barely a blip on the radar means that there is still some sanity left.

I think at this point, it is all moot. 90% to 95% of Republican Primary voters looked at Paul’s record, listened to what he said, and didn’t buy it.

Not disagreeing with you there. But calling him a goosestepper is way off the mark.

BTW, I supported either Thompson or Hunter... we know how that turned out.
