Jerusalem - Israeli Defence Minister Ehud Barak wants to evacuate Palestinian neighbourhoods in the northern Gaza Strip from where militants are launching rockets at southern Israel, Israel Channel 2 television reported Wednesday evening.
He has approached legal advisers to check the legality of such a move, the channel said, adding the plan would involve forcing 'thousands' of Palestinians to move further south in the Strip, away from its northern border with Israel.
He may do so by distributing pamphlets warning them to move and that their neighbourhoods from where the rockets are being fired will be shelled, the channel said.
Israel has tried a series of measures to end the daily rocket attacks from Gaza, including airstrikes, ground incursions and economic sanctions, which have thus far failed to end the attacks.
The international community has condemned part of the sanctions as 'collective punishment' and a violation of international law.

Using civilians as shields for military options is also a violation of international law. Taking steps to deal with that situation is therefore NOT a violation.
Have the Israelis considered simply supplying some of its own citizens with howitzers and heavy rockets to fire into Gaza when the urge comes over them? I mean, Gaza itself isn’t any less densely populated than Southern Israel...
Ban Ki-Moon and his buddies over at the UN, you know, the same people that had a minute silence for the "martyrs" in Gaza are going to have a cow over this. Along with Condi Rice and the rest of the anti-Jews at the State Dept.
Oh, and lets not forget, the NYT and WaPoo, CNNABCNBCCBS ....

my in-laws were over there last summer and ranted and raved how beautiful it was and were equally as thrilled to experience all the history there in the Holy Land
We visited in Nov 07 and had a great time.
Wish we had a similiar wall between US and Mexico.
Traveled to Bethelhem and Jericho and met many Arabs, Israeli’s, Christians and Jews.
The big untold story of the Middle East is the ethnic cleansing of Christian and Jewish Arabs from Islamic lands.
All the Israeli’s we talked to were fed up with Olmert..saw lots of posters against him and witnessed some big demonstrations.
We will go back again. Maybe this year if things are ok.
