that’s really not how I read it. Successful Politicians are not angels, no matter who they are.

Shades of "Brady Bill" Bob Dole all over again.

A geriatric RINO who couldn't excite a squirrel jacked up on caffeine.

We are so screwed...

I didn’t really see him struggling. He hardly campaigned. And he may have done better in Percentage terms than Hillary, even though he had two opponents, one of whom was a home-state candidate.

If you can show me a poll that put Dole anywhere near where McCain is polling nationally, I’ll listen to your angst.

McCain is not Bob Dole.

No, I would never attempt to smear Reagan. My point is to say, that no candidate is perfect. Reagan appointed Sandra Day O’Conner, for example, and did a BIG amnesty program that would have most FReepers having heart attacks. I still think he was the best president in the modern era.

Similarly, McCain will do a thing or two we don’t like or that don’t turn out. However, over all, I think he will do well.

Also, I think he is principled - in other words, he sticks to his own principles, he doesn’t shift with the wind. I don’t share all his principles, but I don’t think he is shifty.

Don’t forget, Rasmussen has him beating both H. and O. in daily tracking polls. He can win.

Yeah, its really painful to try and say anything good about McAmnesty, so why don’t we go back to a less disturbing topic such as how the Democrats are going to wreck healthcare, the economy, foreign policy, etc...

Ann Coulter started a sub-movement of angry conservatives to the Hillary camp! This is no joke.

There is a certain logic to it.

The country would likely be in a lot better shape if Al "Lipstick" Gore had won -- simply because of the gridlock factor that would have ensued.

Instead, the countryclub faction of the GoodOlboyParty held court, and hung together. What the Big Dog wanted, the Big Dog got.

Never mind that what the Big Dog wanted was more statist crap than even Clinton 1.0 ever dreamed of getting through Congress. It was GOP all the way. Yay, team.

So, it does make sense from a cold strategic perspective to vote for The Witch, but frankly, I've had it with the whole damn thing. I ain't a-votin' anymore (apologies to Phil Ochs).

Well you get any of the two on the other side in there, and we won’t have a republic at all! Or if we do, it won’t look the same as it does right now. Oh it will be a “Socialist” republic for sure! So what’s your choice? I don’t know about you, but I’d prefer the president who the two Castros, Chavez, etc.. absolutely hate, wouldn’t you?

The last time I looked, I don’t believe it’s Hillary or Barack! Go figure.

Must be strange for him to have to endorse the man who has crossed him at every step of the way.

No, there's nothing strange about it at all. That is, it would be completely uncharacteristic of him to NOT do that.

It's a textbook example of Bush masochism. The worse you treat him, the better he treats you. Look at how he gave our children over to The Swimmer ("No Child Let Ahead") and so forth.

By the same token, treat him well (i.e., vote for him, and go to bat for him after the election) and he craps on your lunch. Witness his contempt for "the base" after he'd gotten the brass ring.

(And, look at how he acted like Vicente Fox's lapdog -- it was embarassing to watch, he was like a little schoolgirl when around the guy -- and Fox was enjoying every moment of it. He crapped in the whole country's lunch, and Bush responded by swooning in his macho presence.)

Anybody got a link to that old Farside cartoon? The one where the buzzard is swaggering around in a pair of boots, wearing a ten-gallon hat, going "I'm a cowboy, yup yup yup, I'm a cowboy!"

Well go vote for Obama then!! Then if he wins, I hope he does what you want. Because if he doesn’t, I don’t want to see any griping! tsk

I don’t agree with that at all! If he hated him, why did he choose him twice for vp? Boy, that is some hatred!

You’d think if he hated him, why would he do that? Bush Sr. said once that Reagan was a wonderful boss to him! Now you’d think that there would be an uneasiness, or frostiness between them for at least one term; but two terms? Reagan had every option to choose someone else the second time, couldn’t he?

Well, I tried to find it, but couldn't. Lots of references to it, though -- and got my memory refreshed, it was "howdy howdy howdy!" rather than "yup yup yup!"

I did find one cartoon though that pretty much sums up this election:

Also, the next president will be appointing at least one, probably two SCOTUS judges. We stand a chance with McCain. If its Hitler or Hussein, we will get either a Pinko, Soros or a Ali-something. Hitler might even nominate old BJ.

I will never be a part of setting this court back. President Bush has pushed it to the right and we need to hold it if we can.

John McCain is our nominee.

What you mean "our", Kimosabe?

He's the Republican candidate, and as luck would have it, I happen to be a conservative -- you know, the political philosophy that this site is based upon?

Perhaps you thought you were on RNC-dot-web or something?

The same Republicans who convince themselves to accept McCain will convince themselves to accept (and contort to defend) his anti-original intent, anti-constitutional federalism, foreign law quoting, socially liberal to moderate SCOTUS appointees. They’ll tell us how much worse we would have been off under Hillary or Hussein Obama, something which would be almost impossible to prove.

Face it, we need a few good conservative Senators to filibuster just about every judicial appointed from Obama, Clinton or McCain for the next 4 years.
