It wasn’t a huge segment, but the Captain used to read books on occasion. BTW, the Town Clown was the Captain. It was a character similar to the Clara Bell character he played on Howdy Doody.

My sister and I found the Town Clown very disturbing...wonder why. Remember when he’d sit on his train pillow and the whistle would blow?
