Berlin - German soldiers are overweight, smoke too much and do not engage in enough sports, according to a report published Tuesday by the parliamentary commissioner for the defence force. "Male and female soldiers are too fat, partake little in sports and pay too little attention to what they eat," Reinhold Robbe said in his official report to parliament. He called the situation "shocking."

I read somewhere that in the unionized Bundeswher the average age of your average private is now FORTY!!!
Hard to believe they were once considered a lean, mean outfit back in Cold War days.

The nice thing about the military is if command wants to do something about it they have the keys to the mess halls. The less nice thing about the German military is that they have to clear it with the unions first...
I have breakfast twice a week with German troops...in their chow hall. My observation is that a German kid likely comes into the military carrying 15 pounds extra...and after their mandatory eight or nine months...he probably has shaved off that 15 pounds. German kids are simply bigger than they were 30 years ago....blame their diet, the beer, or just lack of sports...but they are bigger.
I will say this...for $6...you get a mighty fine breakfast with plenty of German rolls, bacon and excellent coffee. Fruit is a big zero, but I’d say they serve a good decent breakfast.
Good thing the French have plenty of trees to give them shade.

If Germany wants a military, it will have to pay for a German military.
The pipe dream of an EU military is much like the joke about Hell, where the maintenance is by the French, logistics by the Spanish, the mess halls are run by the English, the paperwork is generated by the Germans, the strategy is created by the Italians, and the money is diverted in Brussels for use in bureaucratic conferences in Tahiti.
Oh, and the soldiers are Muslim immigrants.

Most definitely false information. The average age easily compares to those of other western armies.
