The GOP nomination is not over. McCain needs 52% of the remaining pledged delegates in order to guarantee a win on the first ballot and avoid a brokered convention no matter how he acts for the next six months. Only the pledged delegates have to vote for him. The rest could still see him for how flawed he is, something that given the time frame, he is likely to do.
