loved this passage in the Washington Post:
Buckley feuded bitterly with the writer Gore Vidal, and in a live appearance on ABC television at the 1968 Democratic National Convention in Chicago, Vidal called Buckley a “crypto-Nazi.”
Buckley answered: “Now listen, you queer, stop calling me a crypto-Nazi or I’ll sock you in the goddamn face.”
“Liberals claim to want to give a hearing to
other views, but then are shocked and offended
to discover that there are other views.”

Should have seen it on TV. I still remember that moment I thought Vidal was going to pop a Blood vessel.
Willian Buckley was a genius....and a great American.
