Clintons superdelegates rejecting pleas to switch By Alexander Bolton Posted: 02/26/08 08:08 PM [ET]
House Democrats supporting Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton (N.Y.) are rejecting Speaker Nancy Pelosis (Calif.) plea that lawmakers not overrule voters should they be in a position to decide who will be the Democratic presidential nominee.
Acrimony gathering inside the party has spurred some Democrats to begin discussing reforming the nominating process and perhaps getting rid of superdelegates altogether.
Many Clinton backers representing districts that voted for Sen. Barack Obama (D-Ill.) say they are not likely to change their mind should the contest come down to the superdelegates the 796 Democratic lawmakers, governors and officials who may determine the nominee.
Those lawmakers say they should be able to vote however they want, even if it means giving the nod to the candidate who wins fewer delegates from more than 50 election contests conducted prior to the nominating convention. One member said the only way he wouldnt vote for Clinton is if he died.
I am a delegate, Im a supporter of Hillary, Im supporting who Im supporting, said Rep. Diane Watson (D-Calif.), even though 62 percent of the Democratic voters in her district backed Obama.
Such devotion worries some party officials who say record turnout and excitement over Democratic candidates could fizzle if voters feel their voices do not count.
Democrats supporting Obama, who has a lead among pledged delegates, agree with Pelosi that superdelegates should follow the decision of the American people and line up behind whichever candidate has amassed the most pledged delegates by convention time.

Some pigs are more equal than others...
They would be FOOLS to do so.
YESSS!!! Elementary Ms. Watson!!!
Nancy Pelosi is saying she wants to change the rules in the middle of the game.
Much like Hillary is suggesting, regarding the seating of delegates in Michigan and Florida.
This just gets better and better! Takes some of the sting out of getting stuck with McCain.
At the rate the Dems are going, their convention hall in Denver will have a hot enough roof to fry it on!
I’m starting to think there’s not enough popcorn on the planet to last until then.
They are so stupid. The whole point of the Superdelegates was that if the primary voters were stupid enough to pick another McGovern, the party leadership and people who “know better” would be able to fix the problem before they went down to defeat.
Now that they have that situation developing, to reject the Superdelegates begs the question, why even HAVE them?
Of course, Hillary has shown her ability to screw up even a winning message. She should be pointing out that it takes a majority of delegates to win, and if neither candidate gets a majority, then it IS up to the superdelegates to decide.
She should clearly pledge to support Obama should he win a majority of delegates, but clearly state she will not give up until he does, and that until someone gets a majority, they are NOT the winner.
And please, Democrats who complained about the "unfairness" of the election in 2000, and 2004, and how your votes didn't count and how you just hated hated hated the Electoral College... please, could y'all spin this for us?
Could ya explain how it really is a great thing that this time is somehow different and the fact that Hillary may subvert the democratic process is a good thing now, but how it wasn't in 2000 or 2004?
Those FBI files sure paid off!
If Hillary is nominated, she’ll be our next president. Republican feminists, members of the majority of Catholics and other groups have indicated that they would vote for Hillary in the general. Many will refuse to vote for McCain, if Hillary is nominated.
If Hillary is our next president, our military forces will shrink, and our enemy will enlarge very quickly. Iran will have more than enough international Islamo-fascist support to attack.
Elect Hillary, and give us “neo-cons” a real war. ;-)
lets see how fast the race card is pulled on this.....
Diane Watson- treasonous to the day she takes her last breath.
Maybe it’s time the Super Delagates are sent packing for good.
The public should elect the candidates, and the Electoral College should perform it’s function after the November election.
There is a reason why the founders of the country set things up like they did.
The Demorats just wander all over the map with rules, don’t they?
No wonder parents cannot give their kids a consistent message, when the publicity of this kind of behavior is what they learn from.
Any word on how many $$$ Winston has been donated by the C’s?
“If Hillary is nominated, shell be our next president. Republican feminists, members of the majority of Catholics and other groups have indicated that they would vote for Hillary in the general. Many will refuse to vote for McCain, if Hillary is nominated.”
I hope Hillary can win in OH, TX and PA and gets to the RAT Convention close enough to Obama in pledged delegates that she wins the nomination by (A) getting the FL and MI delegates seated, (B) getting the lion’s share of the superdelegate vote or (C) a little from column A, and a little from column B. I want to see Democrats getting dragged by their hair through the streets of Denver as cries of “Racism!” and “Sexism!” fill the air. After that, the Democrats would be lucky to get 45% of the vote.
espacially = especially
I wonder if they can get any of those “Selected Not Elected” signs left over from FL in 2000.
What a bunch of dopes.
Selected, Not Elected!
I need to go steal one from a DUmmies, dust it off and get ready make them eat it.
I’m going to buy stock in Orvil Redenbacher and Land of Lakes. I love buttered popcorn. LOL
