How Hillary Clinton blew a sure thing

WASHINGTON — She had everything going for her. The most famous name in politics. A solid lead in the polls. A war chest of at least $133 million.

Yet Hillary Clinton now finds herself struggling for political survival, her once-firm grasp of the Democratic presidential nomination seemingly slipping away.

What happened?

Barack Obama, for one thing, a uniquely gifted speaker with a face that appeals deeply to the Democratic Party. He also had a better-organized campaign.

But Democrats say that Clinton, whose central theme is her readiness to be president, also made blunder after blunder. She chose an inexperienced campaign manager, crafted a message that didn't match the moment, fielded poor organizations in key states and built a budget that ran dry just when she needed money most.

"She got outmaneuvered," said Mark Mellman, a Democratic strategist who isn't aligned with any of this year's candidates. "Her campaign allowed her to be outmaneuvered on several fronts."

"To think that someone named Clinton with $130 million could end up here is amazing," another neutral Democratic strategist said. He spoke only on the condition of anonymity to permit more candor, as did many party insiders quoted here who dare not offend the still-powerful Clintons.

Clinton isn't out of it yet. Aides this week dismissed talk of mismanagement and mistakes and said that she can fight back in Ohio and Texas on March 4 and in Pennsylvania on April 22, and win the nomination at the Democratic National Convention in August.

"People have made the mistake of writing off Senator Clinton before," campaign spokesman Phil Singer said.

Yet it's undeniable that the New York senator has fallen awfully far awfully fast.

One factor is Obama, an Illinois senator.

"You've got to give credit to Barack Obama. He is a once-in-a-generation politician," Mellman said.

Her luck can also be cause she is a “Clinton”. Folks have not forgotten all the law suits, sex scandals, etc. that they had to look at on the nightly news for 8 years. Something we have been free of for the past 7 years with the Bush administration.

Because the GOP race is over, many Republican voters in Texas are voting for Obama. It is our duty and privilege to drive a stake into the Clinton bid for another 8 years in the White House.

I watched part of the Clinton-Obama debate and the difference between their personalities is dramatic.

She comes off as arrogant, cold and calculating, and not likable at all in contrast to Obama who uses non-divisive appealing language and seems relaxed and likable.

Likewise last election I think the personality differences between Bush and Kerry really helped get Bush elected.

Don’t forget that question Russert asked about licenses for illegals. That was what I think started it all.

The Democratic party resembles a body rejecting an organ transplant.

If Bill was such a great party politician, how come everybody he campaigned for lost?

I am firmly convinced that the air will go out of the Obama balloon as soon as Hillary's campaign is dead and buried.

Never have the two parties produced such mediocre nominees.

Hillary Clinton has never done anything on her own in her life. Her seat in the senate was handed to her, she couldn’t possibly have failed to gain it. She was married to a guy who was president. Big deal. I have NEVER thought she could be her party’s candidate much less POTUS due to he utter lack of life experience or qualification.

The stones in the street could have predicted her failure. As for the Empty Suit: he is no more a once in a generation politician than the Shrillidiot was a lock for the nom.

And as with all icons of the left... details will be few and conflicting... while the DBM accolades unxious and inexhaustible.

“Folks have not forgotten all the law suits, sex scandals, etc. that they had to look at on the nightly news for 8 years.”

With Bill on the campaign trail, jabbing his knobby finger at reporters while angrily not answering questions he doesn’t like, it all comes right back.

Meanwhile, Obama contrasts the behavior with calmness, coolness, and composure - one facet of CHANGE and HOPE that the “messiah” hath brought to America. Why, it’s a miracle! I’m feeling a bit light-headed, I think I mig h t ... fai

So, on the only two "big" things she has tried to manage in her life, i.e. the health care task force and her potus campaign, she has been utterly inept!

Ummmm, she's never run a business, couldn't control her marriage, her cheating husband, or her campaign. What on earth makes anyone believe she could run a country?

I have mixed feelings on this. On one hand I enjoy seeing the Witch fall, but on the other hand, Obama is a spawn of the far left! I hope they destroy each other before this thing is settled!

The "smartest women in the world" actually is dumber than a box of rocks. So, on the only two "big" things she has tried to manage in her life, i.e. the health care task force and her potus campaign, she has been utterly inept!

So true. And what are the great ideas that stir this powerful intellect? "Government will do it better" (against all the evidence). The smartest woman in the world is a fan of college sophomore level socialism.
