>>And are you telling me we never f’d up like idiots ?<<

Nope. We do it all the time. But what do either of us mean by “we”. After all, none of the decision makers here were a part of the Bay of Pigs fiasco.

But ultimately, we are a little like the grunt in the trench second guessing our generals, not knowing that our particular group is a mere diversion. Or it could be Galipoli.

We won’t know until after the fact, and even then we may think it went badly when it actually would have gone far worse if we had NOT done what we did. Sometimes we never really know what “good” long term consequences came from apparent boneheaded decisions.

It really is like chess.

Yes, it is like chess.

There are lots of posssibilities out there which we will probably never know, but there is always the danger of unintended consequences that could come into play.

Imho, it’s almost like this decision was made to intentionally destablize the region and force Russia into a no win situation. But hey, I know nothing about foreign policy.

"It really is like chess. "

And he game has been conceded to Adolph Hitler, who hasn't been personally involved since 1945.

Yes, and being a geopolitics buff I agree - however this time they really screwed the pooch in my opinion. A lot of times I feel I understand the deeper game that goes on. For example, Iraq - it truly is about power projection in order to realign the ME in a shape that makes local governments clamp down on the terrorists that they used to ignore. It’s about redefining the power relationships in the ME center of gravity.

Kosovo - a piece of crap po-dunk chunk of land of no consequence to anyone but Serbs and Albanians. No strategic route there. No roads to connect anything. No natural resources like oil (sure some smallish mineral deposits but nothing to get excited about). Nothing of geopolitical value, only trouble.

If this is a pawn being played to further push on the Russians, I think we’ve overplayed our hand here. They’ll have to respond to this and we won’t like it.
