"Barack Will Never Allow You to Go Back to Your Lives as Usual."
Last night I appeared on Hugh's show, and his producer Duane mentioned a Michelle Obama speech at UCLA. Captain Ed talked about this a bit, but I hadn't seen anyone transcribe the part of the speech where it gets a little... unnerving. It starts at about 8:41 in the audio.
Barack Obama will require you to work. He is going to demand that you shed your cynicism. That you put down your divisions. That you come out of your isolation, that you move out of your comfort zones. That you push yourselves to be better. And that you engage. Barack will never allow you to go back to your lives as usual, uninvolved, uninformed.
I'm sorry, nowhere in the Constitution does it authorize the President of the United States to demand anyone shed their cynicism. And I'm all for people pushing themselves to be better, but I don't think the President demanding it is the way to go about it.
And what if we kind of like our lives as usual? What about Americans' freedom to be uninvolved and uninformed?
Darleen at Protein Wisdom transcribed what follows:
"You have to stay at the seat at the table of democracy with a man like Barack Obama not just on Tuesday but in a year from now, in four years from now, in eights years from now, you will have to be engaged."
Ah. Apparently apathy will be criminalized, then?
Does anybody on the left side of the aisle find this rhetoric a little creepy? Isn't this describing an authoritarian presidency way beyond anything George W. Bush has done or proposed?
Do the powers of the presidency really encompass everything Michelle says Obama wants and plans to do? Based on this rhetoric, isn't he actually running for messiah?

So, Obama and Jones have more in common than we think.
I understand you completely. I've been that same way, McCain was compromised due to immigration ... and yet, once the choice is McCain v Obama, it is so crystal clear and so stark who is better to be president, that we need to do the right thing for the country and vote McCain and stop Obama.
How DARE you tell john mccain what to do! don’t you know he was a foot soldier in the Reagan Revolution?! (/s)
other than than you are correct.
I don’t know. It certainly would not surprise me, though.
we are stuck with Joseph Stalin vs Nevil Chamberlin.
The enemy who wants in through the door and the “friend” who wants to voluntarily open the door.
I'd say Obama is scarier. He seems to come from a parallel universe. A weird mixuture of idealism and fecklessness. IMO, more evil comes into the world through stupidity and naivete than through calculation.
Arbeit Macht Frei (Work Brings Freedom) is on the gate at the entrance to Auschwitz.
The article says, "Barack Obama will require you to work."
Absolutely—Jim Jones said very similar things; required work (Peoples Temple worked HARD and literally didn’t sleep); required no cynicism; required socialism; he also never allowed his followers to go back to their lives as usual. . .Obama is Jim Jones II.
Jim Jones’s son says the opposite—he maintains that his father knew he was a fraud every day of his life, and the psychological torment of that knowledge was one factor that led to the taking of his own life, and taking his 900+ followers with him (1/3 of whom were innocent babies and children; so sad).
Good point - I think it can go either way with these things. I was watching the obama-rama last night and kind of thought that he was believing all that crap but then again what do I know :)
Obama’s followers ARE like Jim Jones followers, who fell roughly into two groups: poor, uneducated, liberal blacks, and wealthy, educated, 60s-era liberal whites. Socialists all.
I’ll bet some of them ARE the same people (former Peoples Temple members who left the “church” before the end), or are relatives, anyway, of those who died at Jonestown. (Thirty years ago next November.)
Yes, Jim Jones was absolutely a Communist; Peoples Temple lived communally in SF and then in the “re-education camp” that was Jonestown, where they were given lessons in Marxism and planned to eventually defect to the Soviet Union.
The definitive work on Jim Jones and Peoples Temple: “Raven,” by Tim Reiterman, a reporter who was there at the Peoples Temple shootout in Guyana that killed Congressman Ryan (who I believe is the only Congressman ever to be assassinated in the line of duty).
He is sounding more and more like Dr Evil.
I heard him say, “instead of young men being put in jail who had a job, we will give them a job”
I want to see the Messiah convince a young man selling drugs on the street that it would be more lucrative for him to get a 9 to 5 job and earn a living the right way.
We live in dangerous times, but sadly enough with a sh## load of very stupid people willing to follow and not ask QUESTIONS!!!!!
“No papers, state to state.”
This guy is starting to sound more like the Antichrist every day.
Obama is a very dangerous man. Hitler was a great orator. His oratorical abilities and promises led him to prominance. Obama is a great example of how the Antichrist will rise to power. By his oratorical and persuasive powers, he will mesmerize people. Almost like the charismatic preachers who mislead so many with their
deceptive devices, personalities and almost hynotic like powers. It’s power that rises from below to mislead those who are held captive by the dark forces of the unseen world. We now live in a nation where a majority have no discernment, wisdom, nor spiritual senses. The great spiritual enemy of mankind is making his last day move. Those of you who have “ears to hear,” “look up,” the day is near at hand.
I don't know about the anti-christ...but the feeling I get in my gut says B. Hussein is..
The smiling handsome man who promises Peace, yet leaves nothing but Devastation, in his wake.
