Thanks for the thread this week Norm.

One of the California markets was giving away tickets if you bought $20.00 worth of groceries. That’s one way to fill the stands.

So what’s next for Vandebosch? Perhaps a dress on pit road.

Gordon said his wife couldn’t help but notice that Ashley Judd, the movie star wife of rookie Dario Franchitti, was allowed to wear a dress in the garage during Sunday’s qualifying for the Daytona 500.

NASCAR has a rule restricting women from wearing tank tops, open-toed shoes and, until Judd, dresses.

“She likes to push the issue,” Gordon said of his wife. “She likes to push the issue on the shoulders. I got her past the open-toed shoes part. The skirts, she kind of gave up on all of it. Then she heard about Ashley and said, ‘Oh, I’m bringing the skirts back now.’ “

Gordon said he actually had a conversation with NASCAR on the issue a couple of years ago.

“They were bringing out the topic of do we need to be strict on this when it’s driver introduction,” he said. “I can understand if the engines are fired up and the cars are going down pit road and you’re on the box.

“But when you’re walking out there for qualifying or for driver introductions, is it really that big of a deal? I think it’s petty. The problem is they’ve been so strict on it — if they allow her to do it then they’re going to have to allow others to do it. Then if they don’t they’re going to have some issues.”
