MRN says 7mins to airtime
David Poole...
FONTANA, Calif. This place just aint working.
A lot of good people have worked hard to make Auto Club Speedway something more than a giant waste of stock car racings time.
Bless their hearts, as wed say in the South. But its time to give it up.
For each thing that went well for NASCAR during Speedweeks, about three have gone wrong here this weekend. The dénouement came Sunday evening when rain finally provided euthanasia to an Auto Club 500 that some of those competing in it said never should have started.
Heres a quick summary.
It rained all morning. It stopped. NASCAR dried the track well, at least most of it.
The race started.
Water started leaking through the track. A half-dozen or cars got wrecked, with one getting knocked upside down and another catching on fire.
The race got stopped.
People sawed grooves in the track.
The race resumed.
It rained some more. It stopped again. They raced a little while.
It got dark. It rained again. It stopped.
And then it rained again. The cars were brought to pit lane after 87 laps. It rained hard for about 20 minutes, and then to the horror of all that is right and holy, jet dryers were sent back onto the track.
The idea of resuming a race in the wee hours of the morning Eastern time is insane.
If, on the other hand, someone finally grew a brain, the race would be resumed Monday. That is unless locusts, frogs or rivers that turn to blood come along to further plague this God-forsaken place.
LOL AMEN!
