As Washington begins one of its favourite guessing games, the Arizona senator has refused to divulge any names. But aides have admitted that Tom Pawlenty's will be near the top of the shortlist.
Aged 47, the Minnesota governor will provide a youthful contrast to the 71-year-old war veteran, and is only a year older than Barack Obama, the Illinois senator who is the narrow Democrat favourite.
Other names in the mix include South Carolina Governor Mark Sanford and Florida Governor Charlie Crist, whose support for Mr McCain helped secure early primary victories in their respective states.
With the Democrats set to field the first female or black White House nominee, Senator Kay Bailey Hutchison has emerged as a possibility, along with Bobby Jindal, who last year became the first Asian American to win a governorship, in Louisiana.

He didn’t, really.
Somebody decided he *should* and built a website to promote him.
[and I concur]....LOL!
Tonight, we campaign in HELL!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Gotta be Wilbur Whately.
[well...he *did* do all the legwork for Cthulu’s return, didn’t he?]
“You never know what the voices are telling him to do.”
Hey now!
Don’t go knockin’ ‘the voices’!
Without them, I’d be awfully lonely....:)
LMAO good one! I loved that movie.
Me too.
[and for a long time, I thought I was the only one who did]....LOL!
oh, wow, we should just make it Gore/Lieberman 2008. I assume Crist is out of the picture.

One could use the "insult comic" Lisa Lampanelli's description to further clarify the difference in ethnicity between the two:
Lampenelli: "I mean a SLURPEE Indian, NOT a CASINO Indian!"
Yeah I guess he is further left than McCain's buttboy Lindsey Grahmnesty. Poor Lindsey sold his soul and gets nothing, what did he expect from a backstabber?
Why would Sanford damage his own credibility by signing up with McCain? He’s just be exposing himself as another elitist who didn’t get that McCain is unacceptable no matter who endorses him.
If Sanford wanted a spot on the federal ticket, his best route would have been to run for President himself - he would have blown out his lackluster opponents.
Well, John Belushi is still dead, so...what the heck. Sprinkle some MSG on Media Select McCain for all I care. He won't beat the opposition.
How about Rick Santorum?
This is reality:
If McCain picks an unknown or a Rino, then he will lose this race. Period. It’s over.
First, it will antagonize conservatives like me, who are borderline willing to support him given a conservative VP candidate who could someday be a real standard bearer.
Second, the huge name recognition of a Hillary/Obama ticket will run right over any team that’s spending time getting someone known. His VP should be a known quantity on day one, and should be someone who EXCITES his conservative base.
Third, since it will be another Dole/Kemp ticket, obviously a loser from the start, it will invite 3rd party challenges. If they’re gonna lose anyway, you might as well try to get something else off the ground.
he might as well pick Rudy
a total contrast to dullsville McMy-friends
Rudy will at least entertain us slicing up the antiAmerican defeatest commies running on the other side
Rudy is very quick with a good comback and people like his ballsy attitude
Having to listen to Grahamnasty's whining twang voice is as bad if not worse than listening to Hillary's "Shreek-speak."
Isn’t it “Tim” and not “Tom” Pawlenty? MN is always lost to the GOP, sometimes even in landslide years like 1984. People there really seem to think that a new government program can solve the national woes.
(I love this man)
