McCain? No Way!

Americans are being told by the mainstream media that conservatives have no other choice than to back the hypocrite from Arizona. All that is required is to pretend he is "really" a conservative. "So, crawl under the big Republican tent and vote for McCain," we are told. "Besides, what other choice do you have?"
We have plenty of choices, none of which calls for casting our vote for the lesser of two presidential evils.
First, the Republican race isn't over. Huckabee is still around and as Kansas and Louisiana should point out, the Romney vote flocked to Huckabee. Not that they loved Huckabee, but that they have zero trust in the promises of McCain. Even if Huckabee loses, what makes anyone think conservatives will vote for McCain?
Don't you liberals get it? The republican conservative believes McCain would be a vindictive president. He's proven his dislike for conservatives and would gut us at every opportunity.
Why do I say that? Because of three decades of experience as a Republican California Senator and a fifty year activist in the conservative movement. I have first hand, in-their-face experience with elitist RINO's (Republican in Name Only) office holders. They are biblically ignorant, power hungry, status seeking egotists who have no difficulty aiding their liberal Democrat colleagues whenever their arms are politely twisted. The one thing they have in common with liberal Democrats is their dislike of all conservatives, especially those who are Bible-believing. McCain, as president, would stifle the voices of elected Republican leaders and try to legislate the conservative movement out of existence.
There is no reason why any conservative should be depressed, especially if they look at past history. I clearly remember the political climate in 1964. We newly-awakened conservatives had a real friend running for the Republican nomination. Barry Goldwater defeated a liberal Republican in the primaries, but in the general election, the mainstream media slaughtered him. In 1964 it was easy to do; we had no effective political action committees, no conservative organizations, few pro-life activists, little religious participation, no talk radio, a handful of articulate conservative legislators, no fax machines and zero Internet. After the 1964 November election, all looked hopeless. Not a bright star on the horizon....But!
In 1966, we conservatives elected an actor as Governor of California. I was elected to the State Senate. The thespian and I were greener than grass but we were both quick to learn. Ron Reagan became a national star, a conservative leader in the nation’s most popular state. He couldn't be ignored.
I founded Gun Owners of America and Gun Owners of California. We became the second largest pro-Second Amendment organization in America with membership in the hundreds of thousands. We concentrated our efforts on electing pro-gunners to the legislature and stopping anti-gun legislation. We grew rapidly and were quite successful. During liberal Jerry Brown's eight years as governor, not a single anti-gun bill was signed into law. The reason was simple -- although the liberal Democrats controlled both houses of the legislature, no anti-gun legislation passed from either house to find its way to the Governor’s desk.
The entire gun movement is close to accomplishing that feat on a national level. As long as the gun community hangs together, it will make little difference on gun issues who is sitting in the White House. The same could be true of other major conservative organizations as long as they stay in the fight. We are much better off than in 1964 and much better organized.
The other good news is that some of the weak-sister Republicans are leaving office -- not willing to scrap it out with the liberal Democrats. Hooray, happy to see you go! Call Gun Owners if you need a ride out of town. We have an opportunity to replace them with tough, no nonsense conservatives. Already, some very fine men are seeking these vacancies.
We at Gun Owners intend to be very engaged in Congressional and US Senate races.
I personally will not cast a vote for the presidency -- that is, if McCain is the Republican nominee. Under no circumstances will I vote for either of the Democrats. This will be the first time in fifty years that I have made this choice. I hope it will be the last.

With Sen. John McCain’s unanticipated and rapid ascent to “presumptive GOP Presidential Nominee,” the liberal (left) wing of the Republican Party is positioned to seize control of the party and its conservative soul. This cannot be allowed.
McCain has a critical weakness ... an Achilles’ heel. To beat the democrats, McCain must have the votes of the party’s conservative base. Without the support of dedicated conservatives, leftist McCain cannot succeed.
When the Republican establishment is confronted with the cold fact that if the party nominates McCain, all efforts to win the presidency will be in vain. It will be forced to “broker” the leftist McCain into oblivion where he rightfully belongs.

Yes, It’s always best to close your eyes and follow the lemmings over the cliff. No wonder the GOP is in such sorry shape.
I voted for Reagan twice without reservation.
I voted for Bush senior, with some reservation.
I voted both times, but with much reservation, for Bush Jr.

This same thing occurred to me as well. WHEN McCain loses in November, it will be those of us refusing to compromise our conservative principles and vote for him who will be blamed, by other republicans, for his defeat.
McColaborator and Schwartzenswindler are nearly identical twins, politically speaking! McCompromiser will probably lose like Dole anyhow, so why even bother? McCapitulator can harm conservatism and core Republicanism just exactly the way Schwartzensocialista has butchered the CA GOP's platform and Party "leadership!"
Here we have a perfect object lesson in CA that eveyone could learn from, but yet they bounce in here telling us that Schwartzensellout is STILL better than Grayout Davis!!! Unfreakinbelieveable!!!

RE: I am a conservative first, and a Republican second. Fact is I have registered as “Undeclared” for most of my political life, even though always voting Republican, save but once: my first vote at the age of 18 was for Carter. Coming from a family of Massachusetts Democrats that was understandable.
Although “undeclared” I actively supported GOP functions at the state level, working in grass roots organizations (CWA for example) to get conservatives on the ballot ... a difficult task in Massachusetts. I agree with the late Rep Tip O’Neill (D) that “all politics is local.”

RE: I think you might like to change that first clause: I am sure Rush did not state he would seriously vote for Obama. More likely demonstrating absurdity by being absurd, his trademark approach. And as I recall Rush has said that McCain would be a disaster for the country and the GOP.

RE: McCain will so thoroughly destroy the conservative platform of the GOP and so alienate the base that any chance of fielding and supporting conservative candidates within the official GOP structure will become a lost cause. The present circumstance validates that assertion. The present incarnation of the national GOP machine goes out of its way to banish conservatives from the party apparatus, mainly by ignoring their candidacy so they never get much exposure and wither on the vine. The GOP is so infested with moderate RINOs that it has become a joke, a national embarrassment of mediocrity and compromise.

RE; Not likely. John McCain is a classic choleric-melancholic. His ego and pride will never allow him to select any running mate that might threaten his presence on the national stage. McCain is a one-man show... My way or the highway. No principled individual could tolerate such a personality for four years, and would likely resign.

RE: That is a rather amusing argument you make, given that the present Republican Administration and its cohorts in the Congress have attempted to force amnesty for illegal aliens on the American People three times in three months. They have, over the past eight years, grown the federal government in size and scope more than any previous administration, except possibly that of FDR. They have, as of late, been “warming up” to the purveyors of Global warming. And they have not been too concerned about the “bottom line.”

I find it easier to consider that I’m not voting for McCain, I’m voting AGAINST the Democrats.
That is an EXCELLENT way to look at it, because that's the ONLY way McCain will ever get my vote! I will NEVER forgive him for authoring that destructive amnesty legislation with that aorry pos, Kennedy. We know what to expect from a Hillary Presidency, but Obama would be worse, because Kennedy already has him in his pocket.
The USSC appoinments would be to the left of Ruth Bader Ginsburg, and there goes our gun rights.
Hunter was as near to perfect we were going to see in this race. Despite Michael Reagan’s apparent backing of McCain, he called Hunter the best man for the job and the one man most like Ronald Reagan.
Maybe we should start a movement to “write in” Duncan Hunter. Is there a way we can start such a movement?
