Obama bill: $845 billion more for global poverty

Sen. Barack Obama, perhaps giving America a preview of priorities he would pursue if elected president, is rejoicing over the Senate committee passage of a plan that could end up costing taxpayers billions of dollars in an attempt to reduce poverty in other nations.

The bill, called the Global Poverty Act, is the type of legislation, "We can – and must – make … a priority," said Obama, a co-sponsor.

It would demand that the president develop "and implement" a policy to "cut extreme global poverty in half by 2015 through aid, trade, debt relief" and other programs.

When word about what appears to be a massive new spending program started getting out, the reaction was immediate.

"It's not our job to cut global poverty," said one commenter on a Yahoo news forum. "These people need to learn how to fish themselves. If we keep throwing them fish, the fish will rot."

This starts as a loan and not a handout, underwritten by major companies throughout the world and not the American people.
You wrote that with a straight face?

Yeah, we’ve done so well eliminating poverty from the US, let’s do it for the whole world now. Sheesh.

The Audacity of Insanity.

From the article:
The plan passed the House in 2007 "because most members didn't realize what was in it," Kincaid reported. "Congressional sponsors have been careful not to calculate the amount of foreign aid spending that it would require."
Vile, filthy, scumbag sponsors.

It has gotten to the point that these assholes have completely forgotten they work for us.

Didn't we fight a rather sizeable war one time because we were being taxed without proper representation?

Ya know, we might have to do that again.

The ONLY people who will benefit from this global aid package for the poor are corrupt country leaders and their delegates to the UN.

From the article:
Another forum participant said, "Yes, and we should also eliminate sickness of any kind and get rid of poverty as well. Then, too, we should make certain that everyone in the world has equal assets, equal money, a college education, etc… After that, or maybe while we are solving all of the world's little problems, we can take care of the polar bears, eliminate the internal combustion engine, and, and, and… Oh dear, if only we would just go ahead and do all the things the dreamers want us to do. Let's stop using oil and burning coal while we're at it. Then we can make it illegal to be overweight and then we can. ..."
That has GOT to be a FReeper :)

As we strive to rebuild America’s standing in the world, this important bill will demonstrate our promise and commitment to those in the developing world.

With a logic base like this it makes me wonder of O-Bamma O-Rama even studied a little post WW2 history at Harvard????

When did an influx of American $$$$$ show 3rd world idiots our promise and commitment to anything that they didn’t turn our money around and cram it in our ......

These Democratic socialist idiots believe anything, from Al Gore to the UN, as long as it leaves you with a warm gummy bear feeling in the gut. I wish the GOP had someone running against this left wing crap this year.

Untold billions have gone to third-world countries already, and they don’t even have clean drinking water. Why? The money gets stolen by corrupt officials and/or war-lords that use it to buy weapons.

One could make the same points about the billions we've spent in Afghanistan and Iraq.

It would have been one thing if we had simply sent our military over there to kill islammofascists, and break their toys, but 'nation-building' while leaving islammunism in place is counterproductive to our interests.

At least US aid to developing countries in Africa and parts of Asia would temporarily buy the loyalties of people there, and perhaps make them more resistant to AQ. Besides, just like the efforts over in Afghanistan and Iraq, the money would go to US companies to provide goods and services, it really would still be shoring up our economy. The question is, do we want to piddle a trillion dollars away on potential friends, or on sworn enemies who have not really been defeated, like the Germans and the Japanese were?

Enough taxation on the American taxpayer to help shove this economy into another depression which will take 10 years or so to recover from.

Considering who pays the bulk of the taxes in this country, I'd say there is very little faux about this modern day Robin of the Hood.

For all the change rhetoric, it sure sounds like the same old tax and spend playbook.

It is about time someone had compassion for all humans, and took forced contributions from greedy Americans to make this happen. God bless him.

Volunteers need not apply, in a socialist/communist society, right commrad

...Teach a man to fish and he eats for a lifetime.

No, "Teach a man to fish and he sits in a boat drinking beer all day."
There now, that's a lot closer to the truth.

GtG
