IN TENNESSEE, LEGISLATION RESPONDING TO CAMPUS SHOOTINGS by legalizing gun carry on campus by faculty and staff. Direct bill link here (PDF). Seems like a good idea to me, though as I've noted elsewhere, I'm okay with permit-holding students carrying too.
Yes, this is the proper response.
Why just faculty? When it’s time for my girls to go to college, I want them armed at all times.
Were all just felons waiting to happen!
I think they could use improvement on policing their own.

Ditto.
Hell yeah!
As soon as this passes, me and my gun will be at ETSU. Great for leaving the lab late.
I know a certain former ex Police Chief of a major Tennessee campus. He kept a 12 guage pump behind the counter of a store he once owned :>}
Ever since Davy Crockett and his Tennesseans came to help at the Alamo, I've known there was excellent common sense in the Volunteer State.
That is... excepting that whole Algore thingmajig!
Finally, a knee jerk reaction in the right direction. ;-)
Great! Now, just dont ruin it for the rest of us by leaving your guns in the bathroom or something stupid. The media would LOVE that as an excuse to jump all over us.
thank you
Tennessee has it right.
If I decide to go to college, it WILL be in a state that allows me to carry on campus.
Yes, it is the proper response. Now help me figure out how to convince the extremely liberal State of Maryland this is the case. Even George Mason University in nearby Virginia is singing its own praises this week for becoming yet another Victim Disarmament Zone.
Sumner County TN here. I will be applying for my CCW permit soon.
This is a good first step. Hopefully the next step is to allow students with CCW’s to carry on campus also. However, I understand incrementalism. That’s part of our problem on the conservative side. Our worthy liberal opponents understand that idea perfectly and have been doing it to us for a long time. The only way to turn the tide back to what our founders intended is by incrementally going the other way.
At best, Albert was half a Tennessean. He was raised in DC hotels and boarding schools.
A step in the right direction, I’d say.
IIRC (and I may not) when he was a Senator and answerable to a TN constituency, he held pro-life and pro-gun positions and I'm pretty sure he wasn't openly anti-military.
Kind of like McCramesty when he regarded the people of AZ as his constituency rather than a national constituency starting in 2000...
