Obama is foolishly carrying the torch for FDR's scandalous perversions of the Constitution. This post (<-click), while addressing a tax related thread, shows how misguided, spending-happy politicians like Obama are foolishly following in the footsteps of FDR's dirty politics, spending taxpayer dollars based on non-existent federal powers.

The people need to wise up to politicians like Obama who are ignoring their oaths to defend the Constitution, sending them home instead of trying to put people like him in the Oval Office.

yes to what you say.
But what I was objecting to and what the premise is/was:
“Obama is ignorant” via the Rush Limbaugh internet source.

Saying Obama is ignorant is dumb.

Did I say it takes a law degree to understand the Constitution?
No.
I said (implied) that after attending and excelling at a law school, in this case, Harvard, one might believe the graduate does so. Do you not?
It is fitting that you feel insulted.

Okay. You don’t sound like a Obama supporter now, whew.

I’ll call him the following instead:

Over-hyped.
Unvetted.
Dangerous.

Juan/Hillary supporter here, even Mexico’s closer.

Rush quit college because he was not happy with it AND he knew what he wanted to do in life..He had some hits and misses in the world of broadcasting but he has made it in spades!
Obama? He went to law school. So did my brother who is a highly successful attorney in Houston. Obama is in the Senate...and does anyone recall how he got there? He was up against a Republican who was disgraced and had to drop out and the then replacement Republican did not have sufficient time to put a strong campaign together..he more or less won the senate seat by default. And what has he done in the Senate ? Even those supporting him can’t seem to put a finger on it.
I’ll take ElRushb over Barry H Obama any day.

Just because he did well in classes does not make him wise. Wisdom is the afterglow of experience and observation. Obama is lacking in both, IMO.

Pedigree is something useful in a dog show.

"No. I reject the Bush Administration's claim that the President has plenary authority under the Constitution to detain US citizens without charges as unlawful enemy combatants." Memo to Obama: It is not the Bush administration's position. The Supreme Court held in 2004 -- this is the famous case, Hamdi v. Rumsfeld. The president has the power to detain American citizens without charges as enemy combatants.

Rush is way off base here. The Court never even addressed the President's claim of plenary authority under the Constitution. It was the statutory authority of the AUMF that saved Bush's ass in Hamdi. *If* the Court had addressed the Article II argument, Bush would have likely lost 8-1, with only Thomas backing him.

I don’t dispute anything you say, celtic gal.
I just find a cognitive disconnect (like “whaaa!?!?) with Rush calling Obama ignorant. I believe that is a poor tactic.

Are you a celtic gal by birth, ancestry or basketball inclination?
I’m a Celtic man by ancestry and by many nights in the Boston Gah’den.

It’s unfortunate that his fact-checking interns made such a gross error :/ The idea that the President can detain US citizens as enemy combatants without trial should be anathema to everything a true conservative stands for.

You and the court are WAY off here. Obviously you and they have been to school.(big mistake)
If only you had the gift of common sense.
Around here we prefer people who FEEL they know stuff rather than those who actally do so.

Further to that, in Hamdi v. Rumsfeld, eight of the nine justices of the Court agreed that the Executive Branch does not have the power to hold indefinitely a U.S. citizen without basic due process protections enforceable through judicial review.

Which...is pretty much the opposite of what Rush is saying.

Thanks for the squib. Osama was a constitutional law prof at University of Chicago (best law school in the country, better than Harvard), so my money is on him in a constitutional law question. Plus, when the qualifier plenary is used to describe any authority it’s a signal that there’s more to the story.

Rush has the distinct advantage of being able to pass off this kind of malarkey without consequence, listeners should at least be somewhat skeptical.
