The McCain Mutiny
IBD ^ | February 11, 2008

Republicans: George Bush insists John McCain is a true conservative. James Dobson says he's not. Meanwhile, Newsweek predicts "there will be blood" in the GOP. We predict a Republican president. There has to be.

McCain wasn't our first choice, but in the field that remains, he's the best choice. It would be disastrous for America if those conservative purists who'd make the perfect the enemy of the good let America go down a path from which it might not recover.

President Bush, speaking on "Fox News Sunday," responded "absolutely" to host Chris Wallace's question of whether John McCain was a "true conservative." McCain is "very strong on national defense," is "tough fiscally," "believes the tax cuts ought to be permanent" and is "pro-life," Bush noted.

For Obama and Hillary, none of the above apply.

Bush did say, "I think that if John is the nominee, he has got some convincing to do to convince people that he is a solid conservative." Indeed he does, as evidenced by Mike Huckabee's win in the Nebraska caucuses over the weekend.

McCain has done well in primaries where independents could vote for him. In caucuses dominated by party activists, he's done poorly. The caucuses of Maine, Minnesota, Alaska, Colorado, Montana, North Dakota, Nevada and Wyoming were all won by Romney. One might dub McCain the "rebel without a caucus."

Ann Coulter may vote for Hillary Clinton, but we will not. The time for Coulters and the true believers to have rallied behind Mitt Romney was before Super Tuesday. It is by waiting for the next Reagan that they've risked sticking us with the next Clinton.

Well, the biggest loser, will be our military. That is my greatest fear. All I know, right now, is that I can’t vote,
for McCain, but he won’t win, anyway. Are we all lost?

As a over 24 year veteran myself, I disagree strongly.
McCain will continue to give in to the Democrats on every issue>

McCain can NOT be trusted.

George Bush insists John McCain is a true conservative.

I saw that. These people must think conservatives are stupid as box of rocks.

>>Obama is more electable than Hillary.<<

I’m not so sure about that. The Clinton machine is still formidable.

“it’s independants voting in Republican primaries that have no intention of voting for McManiac in the general election. “

That’s just not true.

You're right. It was Independents and Democrats voting in Republican Primaries in Liberal States that put McCain over the top. Conservatives never really even got into the fight. Almost like the RNC planned it that way.

...probably my bad! I was just elevating the great line: It is by waiting for the next Reagan that they've risked sticking us with the next Clinton.

as being above and beyond much of Annie's latest apparently half hearted efforts now that Mitt is out of the running. I strongly agree with her assessment that Mitt and Rudy were "the 2 most intelligent candidates".

Fact: Huckabee has a more liberal record as Governor than Romney does.

While I'm certainly no Huckabee fan, such an outright lie cannot go unanswered.

Did Mike Huckabee institute gay marriage? Did he completely homosexualize the public schools? Did he push through socialized medicine complete with taxpayer-funded abortions? Did he sign a permanent "assault" weapons ban? I don't think so.

Fact: No Governor, of either party, has managed to push through more of the radical Left's dearest dreams and wishes than Mitt Romney. No one.

And no one has ever tried to reinvent himself so totally for the purposes of advancing his ambition.

Thank God he failed, in spite of the mountains of money he expended, and the corruption of the Republican Party he brought about doing it.

How would the compassionate conservative know what a real conservative looks like?

The generations of morally strong, respected national figures are gone.

Baloney. That's a slap in the face to the millions of Americans who have not wavered in their principles, any number of whom are more than capable of advancing into leadership.
