"I'll be voting for McCain in November, but can we please agree that those who decide they cannot vote McCain should be respected for their decision as well?"

Certainly, just as long as they work for the conservative congress critters and vote for them in the election. I will hold my nose and vote for McCain, but I will vote. Anyone who sits on their hands to "send a message" will have my contempt.

This might be fun. So anyone who supports McCain is the liberal right in your view?

In six months time, by August 08, a significant proportion of this forum will be saying "well at least Hillary has some sense." They've planned it all along.

I'm going to believe what I believe regardless of the facts."

Here's what I believe. McPainintheass has been disloyal to conservative on a number of fronts:

Gang Of 14
McCain/Feingold
McCain/Kennedy
Judges

You can sit there all day long trying to make conservatives feel guilty about this traitor to republicans who wants to bring liberals into the republican party for the sake of "reaching out," but it won't work. McPita is a disloyal republican to the base and will we not sit here and let namby-pamy moderate/rino's dictate party direction by acting like spoiled brats who want to vote for this prick!

Go ahead vote for McPita at your own risk! We conservatives will overcome by not voting for backstabbing rino's!

With all the controversy in both political camps don’t be surprised to see a third or fourth party candidate.

For the first time ever, I'm actually hoping for one. I've never sat out on a vote before. McCain will be my first sit out.
I'd love to see a Conservative minded person jump in as an independent.

If McCain really wants to win Conservatives over. He should go back to the Senate and fight a loud messy battle with Senate Democrats on solidly Conservative issues. He has the time for it while Hillary/Obama slug it out.

He should go push a Fed Spending Cap bill, or Earmark Reform or making the Bush tax cuts permanent or a fully funded Border Fence bill.

He needs to back up his words with some actions. Words are not enough.

Too liberal in their thinking , I suppose. I'm against amnesty. I think CFR allowed Soroes to buy American elections. The K-5 pi$$ed me off.
McCain will do anything to get adoration from the TV cameras. He's an opportunist who'll do or say anything for a good camera shot and a "super" right up in the New York Times.

Nonsense. They are very good but not that good
Politics is half crap shoot. Six months ago McCain was wheeling his own luggage through airports

One of those “I”s was McCain confessing to conservatives that “I can’t do it without you.”

I suppose time will tell. 6 in my family won't be voting this time. We're Conservatives. We don't have a dog in this race. It's between the liberal right and the liberal left, so it's not our concern.

So losing the War in Iraq does not concern neither you nor your family?

See Post 273.

If this were 1944 and World War II was still being fought, would you not have a dog in a Presidential election pitting FDR against a Cut & Run From the War candidate because FDR was a liberal?

Back in 2006, when McCain was getting very low poll numbers because he was championing The Surge that is now winning the war, McCain said:

"I would rather lose an election than lose the war."

It is really astonishing to me how many so-called "Conservatives" would rather have America lose the war than lose a primary election.

During the Civil War, people with that position were called "Copperheads".

We have to hope he can convey our values with passion and conviction.

Even though he doesn't share them, or will do nothing to further them?

Ah yes -- let him "convey" them, "with (forked-tongue) passion and conviction."

That'll do it. /sarc

I'd like to get back to talking about Hilary/Obama as the absolute left wing nightmares they both are, there is plenty of entertainment value there.

I don't much like McCain, but I liked that speech. The question of course, is what's most important. McCain is right that the most important thing is the war, and then the courts and taxes, and after than Congress. If those are right, we can deal with everything else over time. So, I'll vote for McCain and do all I can to avoid a Democratic takeover of the country that could change the scope of America every bit as much as FDR's 4 terms (come to think of it, if Hillary wins it'll be Bill's 3rd and 4th terms...)

"“All I ask of any American . . . is to judge my record as a whole,”

He couldn't possibly want that!

His speech is too little, too late and his promises too untrustworthy...

I'd rather help elect Obama and let the Democrats be charged with the disasters that UNAVOIDABLY lie ahead....

As a CONSERVATIVE Republican -- I will try to elect all reasonable Republican candidates BELOW the President...

At this moment - I couldn't possible hold my nose tight enough to vote for McCain..

Sure it does, but the war is going well right now. The dumicrats who are saying they're going to pull out of Iraq are lying through their teeth in order to appease the surrender crowd. To a dumicrat, the ends justify the means.

The dumicrat base consists of life's losers. They're not the smartest birds in the barnyard.

He has time while Hillary/Obama slug it out to go back to the Senate and match his words with deeds.

Pardon me if I don't hold my breath!

Exit polling and polling numbers show that McCain did not win conservatives in nearly any state. Yet, he managed to win enough votes to get enough delegates to jump significantly ahead of the other contenders.

And all of those Northern states he won in the primaries will more than likely NOT be won him in the general, but will swing Democrat.
