Respect is earned. You McCainiacs are either screaming insults at anyone who questions your candidate or singing mindless hymns of praise to his greatness. Try making a factual, rational case FOR him instead of demanding everyone has to support him just because Hillary is worse and people might start respecting you.
Agree AF. That's why I said he has 7 months to convince me.
I have a lot of hatred for the man that is going to be very tough to overcome, but I have also said that I would probably end up holding my nose and voting for no other reason than to keep the Bitch out of the WH.
Todays speech was a small start -- now he must walk the walk too.
I have been very verbal in my opposition to McCain, just as I have been very verbal in my disgust with Bush at times. But the reason to at least listen to McCain can be boiled down to this question - Who would you rather have had as President the last 8 years? Bush or Gore?
That one was a doozy.
I almost lost my lunch on that one.
Yes. As one of our more eloquent freepers stated awhile back, "This election sucks."
McCain’s record of the last 8 years is to violate any Republican value he needs to to advance his political career.
Gang of 14, McCain-Leiberman, McCain-Kennedy, McCain-Feingold, Torture Amendmentment, His Baker Commission etc etc etc.
The only way McCain can win our trust is to match some deeds to his actions. Well he is going to win the nominations now. So let him go back to his job in the Senate and pick some fights with the Democrats on Spending, Earmarks, the Border Fence or any other of a dozen Conservative issues.
He has the time to do that while Hillary/Obhama fight it out. He doens't have to win, he just has to prove to us he is willing to fight for us, not just against us. Based on his record, Conservatives have no reason to trust him and every reason to suspect him.
I have real objections to a McCain presidency. BUT if he promises to give up the open borders crap, and he promises to cut spending, and he promises to appoint justices like Alito and Roberts AND he picks a VP like Fred Thompson then I’ll vote for him.
Maybe I’m a fool for trusting him. No, I haven’t forgotten about the Gang of 14 backstab.
What do you have to show that McCain does not do what he promised?
Translation: "I'm going to let the Democrats control the White House."
Translation of the translation: "I would rather lose the War in Iraq and have the Supreme Court be an activist Court for the next 20 years rather than pass up my temper tantrum."
Translation of the translation of the translation: "I don't care if McCain has been one of the biggest supporters of prosecuting the War in Iraq. I don't care if McCain has consistently supported judges of the 'character and quality of Justices Roberts and Alito' who enforce, and not make, our laws. I'm going to believe what I believe regardless of the facts."
I won’t be voting for McCain. Observation: Hubby encountered a local Democrat today who was complaining mightily that the dems were giving them no choice this time around. He said, “We would have to vote for the woman or the black man. I’m going to vote for the veteran.” This may actually be the way McCain could win in Nov. There may be gazillions of closet male chauvenists and racists out there who will close that curtain and vote McCain instead of the woman or the black. So yeah, let the “moderates” go on and win with what they got. They don’t need us conservatives, and I’m not going to be guilty of helping them.
Because McCain says it? His record says shows us the direct opposite. It shows he is far more likely to cut a deal then fight with the Democrats on anything.
So why should we trust his words over his actions?
For what it’s worth, the personal pronoun “I” appears one hundred eighteen times in this short speech.
Clintonian, wouldn’t you say?
LOL. Are you related to my husband, the Count? H counts the tile in the ceilings and the bricks on the walls.
Still waiting for even a shred of proof to back this up. You all keep CLAIMING it but McCain's record says the exact opposite. What proof do you have to offer to offset Mr Gang of 14 and the Baker Commission McCain's record on both Iraq and Judges?
What’s truly said is that there should have been no reason for him to give a speech like this at CPAC.
Yes, I heard it and it struck me the same way.
Translation of the translation of the translation:
Since you won’t let me make the teams and the rules, I am going to take my ball and go home!
