Bush’s pick of Cheney was wise because Dick had so much DC experience. Remember, W asked Cheney to head up his search for a VP. The more W worked with Cheney, the more he liked the wisdom he saw in Cheney. That, plus Cheney’s many years in the Congress and executive branch led W to choose Dick. I don’t believe the decision was a political calculation in terms of Cheney bringing a lot of votes to the ticket. Wyoming has 3 electoral votes. (Of course, in the 2000 race, 3 votes did mean a lot!)
I just hope that if McCain asks Fred he does not take it. That would be depressing.
Seriously, who the F cares? Every administration and agency leading up to 911 blew it. That is the bottom line.
