"Sounds like she hasn't been brought up with conservative principles in the home. Those values should be taught at home, while liberal values are taught in the streets and alleys."

I generally don't defend liberals, but I am driven to defend young liberals and their parents against statements like these.

To be young is to be liberal. It's part rebellion, part innocent ignorance, part youthful dreams and ambition which give one to believe that they can change the world through radical ideas.

Yes, conservative parents should work to instill their ideals in their children, but children will go their own way as they're wont to do. The best one can hope for is that, once the real world begins to open their eyes, they will recall the values of their parents and return to them.

Yeah I thought the comment that you italicized was kind of small and mean.

And you’re right of course. Young people are liberal; it’s their nature.

To accuse the parents as the cause of a young person’s liberal idealogy is not only a stretch, it’s very nasty.

Those parents had a young person who is bothering to vote for God’s sake. This is a success in itself.

Conservatism, like fine wine, matures with age.

You’re absolutely right. It’s pretty natural for young people to want to rebel. The idea of a socialist utopia is very appealing to them, so they tend to really buy in to the Democrats line of BS. Some of them will grow up and see the reality of the situation, and the rest will become bitter with their lives and remain Dems.

I’m just glad that some of those young dreamers are looking the other way, towards drastically limited government instead. They’re always gong to be disappointed, but at least they’re on the right path. I guess that means I’m still young at heart. :-)

I agree. I responded to the post because there wasn't any of that in there, nor in previous posts by that poster as far as I could find on this thread. If I were to post that my son voted liberally on a conservative forum, I'd qualify it with my disappointment or something. It's kinda like letting a child decide what religion they want to be when the parents don't take them to any church. They'll gravitate to what the schools and media tell them, having no foundation at home.

I think you were quoting Churchill, in a round about way ;)
