Super Tuesday Georgia Primary LIVE Thread

Posted on 02/05/2008 5:21:49 AM PST by melissa_in_ga

First actual thread post; hope this is okay. Mods, please move and/or delete as appropriate.

For those that are interested and still haven't hit the election booth yet, Mr. Melissa_in_ga just told me that Hunter and Thompson are still on the ballots in Georgia. I've done a lot of soul-searching since January 19th. I've said I'd vote my conscience in the primary, and vote for the Republican nominee in the general. My first instinct is to vote for Hunter, since he's still on the ballot and is my first choice for president. However, at this point, my vote is going to Romney, in an effort to stop McCain.

Oh yes, all the dropped-out candidates are still on the ballot.

You are 100% correct, Melissa, voting for Fred or Duncan or Huck is a vote helping McCain, so please make your vote count and vote for Mitt Romney!

Amen to your, "then we can concentrate on getting rid of McCain collaborators Isakson and Chambliss"

After getting my recored call from Chambliss asking me to vote for "his good friend, John MaCain", I immediately wrote to him telling him that his support of MaCain means I will work to see him replaced. His generic response letter back to me was full of BS about how strong he and MaCain are on protecting us from illegal emigration. I wanted to write back and say that now he has added lying to the list of reasons that make me want to work to remove him from congress, but somehow I doubt that it would do any good.

I think we need to remember this, and follow up on our threat.

I live in Norcross. I went to Rockbridge Elementary this morning, about 7am, and it looked closed. What time were the polls supposed to open?

I wanted Fred but I think Romney has a chance of beating McCain here in GA.

I want McCain beaten as I will NOT vote for him in November.

The funny thing is McCain is on record wanting to virtually close down the Lockheed plant in Marietta. One of the States largest employers.

Whenever he has a chance he makes childish snide comments about Lockheed. The man runs on petty spite.

I voted. There weren't many people there. It is raining here, though.

I voted at Pinckneyville Middle school this am (in Norcross), since school is in session, they moved the location of voting within the school to the gym.

At 645 am, I was about #75 in line. I was out by 7:20am. Voted for Mitt— our only hope at this point.

Senators are supposed to represent the state. The State of Georgia has spoken loudly and strong in regards to illegal immigration. Our governor and state legislature has answered that call and has passed some of the toughest anti-illegal immigration legislation in the country.

Now compare that to Isakson and Chambliss. Both are in bed with McCain. Both lied to us by saying that they really weren't with McCain on the issue. Both were going to vote in favor of the McCain-Kennedy bill until they were stopped by the groundswell of opposition within the state. And now both are throwing their support for the man who epitomizes amnesty for illegals. Isakson and Chambliss are cowards. They are more interested in keeping their power in the Senate by kowtowing to fellow Senators than standing on principle. And personally, I am sick and tired of it.

At this point, I would prefer a Cleland or Fowler. I at least know where they stand by their words. They haven't lied to me like Chambliss and Isakson have.

I still have my Herman Cain for US Senate bumper sticker on my car. He will be getting my support in the next US Senate race whether he decides to run or not.

And please don't threaten me with the 'Senator Vernon Jones' scenario. I demand that we have representatives who are accountable to the ideals they claim to embrace. If Chambliss and Isakson claim to be conservatives, it is high time they started acting like conservative. I will settle for no less.

When good compromises with evil, only evil can profit.

Regarding Huckabee, I find his Christian pandering off-putting. I liked Romney’s Faith in America speech. Say it once, get it done and get on with it.

Tend to agree with you. I’m a Christian and I don’t need to be beaten over the head that someone running for office is.

Your post is ludicrous. You'd prefer a Democrat committed to socialist ideals who will stick to his guns over a guy with the 8th-highest ranking out of 100 Senators from the ACU...a guy who's shown he's persuadable and responsive to conservative constituents as evidenced by his backing down on the immigration bill? That's chewing off your nose to quell the stench of your own brain-rot.

You want Vernon? Don't vote for Saxby and you just might get him.

My mom and dad run the only polling station on Jekyll Island. I won't find out until tomorrow how things went for them, but I'll peek in on your thread periodically to keep up with the action.

BTW--I posted the MI primary live thread. Be prepared for some chair-throwing.

That seems like really good turnout for a primary. Is it normally that high so early?

I voted on my way into work this morning....poll was dead, but I did have a nice visit with all the ladies that were friends of my Mom.

I voted against McCain and the best person to beat a Democrat (Mitt).

OH! and I voted FOR alcohol sales in my county—— our property taxes have gone up 6 times what they were 8 years ago. Maybe if we got the revenue that everyone else is getting, we wouldn’t need the extra taxes ;)

Your post is ludicrous. You'd prefer a Democrat committed to socialist ideals . . .

Wrong. I do not prefer a socialist, nor do I prefer someone who has sold us out to socialists.

a guy who's shown he's persuadable and responsive to conservative constituents as evidenced by his backing down on the immigration bill?

He hasn't backed down. He merely lost . . . this round. He had the opportunity to vote for securing the borders prior to granting amnesty. He voted against.

Nowhere have I seen even the remotest admission from McCain that his position was wrong. I have only seen his contempt for people who opposed him on immigration, and that contempt is still being revealed today.
