Was the problem with the lifters or the camshaft?

I just got home from tearing apart the steering axle on my Peterbilt, I love working at night even up here in Alaska.

I havn’t checked the news but one source says cam and another says lifters, but I did hear they went to a steel billet type of lifter instead of cast and that it had to be surface treated, I have built many many high performance engines and rule is to match the hardness of the cam lobe to the lifter, if not you get premature wear, my guess is the steel lifters were the problem.

Forgive me if I am wrong, I am in Alaska and not anywhere near Daytona and I have been off the racing circuit for many years so I also would like to know the facts on this.
