There is nothing innately wrong with a vanity post...you have done pretty well as a lurker since 2001 if this is your first.
I do believe there should be a proportional relationship between posted threads and posted remarks, and posted remarks should be FAR higher then originated threads, otherwise we would all be screaming to be heard, and none of us would be listening...:)
