I think that your solution pushes things too far the opposite direction. Without moderates and independents, a candidate cannot win a general election and having no input from those groups can create a false picture.

Rules such as requiring that the first three primaries be closed, or that at least two of the first five be a state that gave the strongest support to the GOP candidate in the prior election, would create an appropriate balance, IMO.

I disagree...

Give me liberty or give me death. The Republican Party will return to being the conservative party or it will cease to exist. We already have a liberal party, we don’t need two.
