Which reminds me, I forgot reason number 1b. One of his major goals is to close down the IRS. Now anyone who wants to ban the IRS cannot possibly be all bad.

Voting for Huckabee means McCain would get the nomination.
Nope, exactly the opposite. Huckabee pulls 9% more votes from McCain than Romney.

Question: Since it is the result most fervently desired, what are the odds we actually end-up with a brokered convention?

Yet NumbersUSA rated him "Excellent" on immigration. Only after he signed their pledge, they had him rated as poor before that based on his record.

You can not compare Florida exit poll voters to the rest of the country.
So your opinion that Huckabee voters would go to Romney over McCain is based on what? Hope?

Agree.
John McCain is this election cycle’s version of Bob Dole. Both the Clinton and Obama camps are licking their chops at the prospect of facing McCain.
Can’t put my finger on it, but somehow I just don’t like the guy. On the other hand, there is something about Mike Huckabee that I just plain like.
Nothing at all against Romney, I just like Mike.

Sorry but I can't agree with you. A brokered convention would be great but I don't think keeping Huckleberry in the race will accomplish that. Huck's only function now is to split conservatives and act as McCain's stalking horse. McCain can only beat Romney in a three man race. Head to head he's dead in the water.
I understand and empathize with your misgivings about Mitt...but he IS campaigning as a conservative and he's hitched his wagon to conservative issues. I've been actively pro life ever since the very first time I heard the Roe v Wade decision condemned from the pulpit when I was 15 years old. I've marched, lobbied, prayed and counseled teenagers for th epro-life cause. All my adult life I've tried to convert pro choicers...Mitt Romney says he's had a conversion. I'll take him at his word.

Exactly. A brokered convention=McCain.
To: Jim Robinson
As a fellow Thompson supporter, I have to say that Huck is simply not viable as a candidate and can never win. A vote for him is a vote for McCain who is our (as conservatives) worst nightmare.
I have to say, moving to and supporting Romney would be a whole lot smarter, and quite frankly, I think he's a lot more conservative than Huck.
So, I respectfully disagree with your post.

Maybe this was also Hunter’s reason for endorsing Huckabee.

Well, I can’t vote in the primary since I’m still a registered ‘Rat, but after seeing this the Big Mew might be willing to pull the lever for Huck. We’re both voting for FDT in the presidential election in any case, pulling the lever or writing him in.

Question: Since it is the result most fervently desired, what are the odds we actually end-up with a brokered convention? Actually, you have two questions:
1. The chances of a brokered convention are probably about 25% given that Romney has the money to stay in it as long as he wants to.
2. The chances of a brokered convention where the Republican establishment doesn't choose McCain? 0.00%

Agreed... if republicans (and especially Evangelicals) do not understand that the Huckster is never going to receive the GOP nomination, so any vote for him simply splits the votes for Romney and delivers the nomination on a silver platter to McCain, then the GOP will deserve what they get and we conservatives will be left to clean up the mess in future elections, like Regan had to do after the Carter fiasco. please wake up people, its still not too late..

Well said, I had come to the same conclusion. To those who say Huckabee is too liberal, well then start sending him emails explaining exactly what he is doing wrong and ask him to change. (Hint - yelling "you're not conservative" is not the correct procedure.) Tell him what you want. That's what I'm doing.
And I'm also voting for Huckabee.

Only after he signed their pledge
NumbersUSA stated no such thing. They grilled Huckabee on a set of questions to vet out any amnesty weaseling and Huckabee passed. That's why they gave him an "Excellent" rating.

Can't' say I'm a Huck fan -- actually, he was the third I ruled out after Paul and Julie. But then I'm not a real Romney fan either.
I'll think about switching my vote.
