Maybe that’s because on the issues the conservative pecking order goes like this in the minds of most people here:

* Thompson
* Romney
* Huckabee or McCain - who knows.

Doesn’t mean anyone is a “maroon.”

Only one acceptable candidate at Free Republic at a time. Every other candidate is a nobody, eats squirrels, flip-flops, is a tin foil hat wearer, or is insane. Until the current “conservative” candidate for the Freepers drops. Then the flip-flopper is the next choice and the same crew continues to bash for the new guy. Then when he loses and it’s the squirrel eater or the insane guy who will be the choice and the same group think applies. I'm pointing out that it’s getting a little silly now that there is no straightline and unquestionably conservative candidate left in the race.
