The Republicans came along to replace the Whig Party becasue the Whigs refused to take a stand on any of the most important issues of the day.
The Republicans did such a good job of replacing the Whigs that they have become the Whigs.
I’m not asking them to restore Constitutional government overnight; it took many years to build this monster. But I am asking them to begin moving the ball in our direction, towards our goal line, not towards the other team’s goal.
Apparently, that’s too much to ask.
My friends, starting a third party is not the way to go. Conservatives have to educate, re-organize, and focus. The Presidency is not everything. THere are some good people running on Republican tickes on the Congressional side.
If you want to vote for a third party Candidate for President, the Constitution and Libertarian Parties should come up with some nice protest candidates. Write the Presidential elect off and focus on what you can do, not what you can’t do.
"Show me just what Mohammed brought that was new, and there you will find things only evil and inhuman, such as his command to spread by the sword the faith he preached." - Manuel II Palelologus
Open question: Why is it that liberals are so good at being subversives (and I mean everywhere: schools, churches, politics) and conservatives break off and begin anew? New media, charter schools, evangelical movement... and then the conservatives are labeled “fringe” and laughed at by the mother organization.
Pissant.
We can barely muster 50% of the electorate if that.
How can we win with a third party.
The Silent Majority is dead.
The Moral Majority is dying.
Boomers are our most conservative demographic...scary in it’s own right.
Gen X votes left.
Echo boomers vote left.
Minorities vote left.
Hispanics vote left and are growing out of control.
It’s about over as we knew it.
What Would Duncan Hunter Do?
Sorry, I don’t feel like throwing out the baby with the bath water.
And I think you are making a huge mistake.
There are lots of candidates all over the country that couldn’t make a go of it without the backing of the GOP.
A Democrat Congress and a Democrat White House with no organized opposition scares the sh** out of me.
Better idea would be to join a third party en masse already in existence and take it over and trim off some of the kookier fringes of it. Let the RNC (Rinos, Not Conservatives) go the way of the Whigs.
We don’t need a 3rd party. We need a second party to displace the GOP operatives entrenched in DC. The GOP failed in 2006. It is more than likely to fail in 2008, and beyond. The GOP establishment has ignored folks at the grass roots for decades. It is time to stop, once and for all, their endless trail of empty promises.
Actually it’s past time. The eager endorsement of the Republican Party beltway establishment of the worst RINO backstabbing liberal fraud imaginable as the party’s prefered nominee is a clear and unmistakable statement on the behalf of the national party leadership that conservatives, the constituency that gave these ungrateful and despicable SOBs the political majority they enjoyed before they squandered, abused, and betrayed it; that conservatives are not only no longer welcome in “their” party but unnecessary to their future political aims, is evidence enough that this party is finished as a vehicle for the advancement of small, limited government conservatism and Constitutional originality and governmental restraint.
The one and only reason I was motivated to support this party was its promise to pursue conservative principles and implement conservative reforms to reverse the massive damage liberalism has visited upon this nation for many decades like a plague. Now that it has become crystal clear that all my efforts, donations, fund raising, grassroots volunteering, and half a century of struggle, sweat, and toil to elect committed conservatives has been rewarded with a kick in the face and a waste of time, I won’t be there the next time the RNC or the party establishment cries for money, donations, and support. I have had it for good. If conservatives are no longer welcome in the Republican Party and are indeed despised by the RINOs that run it, then the only option for conservatives is to form their own party since conservatives have tried to transform the Republican Party into a conservative one for over 50 years and have been fought tooth and nail and betrayed by RINO liberals at every turn.
Let the GD Republican Party join the rotten and diseased Democrat Party in its march over a cliff toward jackbooted socialism and globalist oblivion for a once sovereign, strong, and free America. I will not lift a finger to assist in that nightmare. If Juan Manchurian McCain remains the party’s candidate in 2008, then I will have no dog in this fight because it will only be a contest between two groups of big government liberal socialists neither of which represent anything I cherish or believe in.
The Republican Party leadership knows that supporting a pompous liberal jackass like McCain will anger many in the Republican base and divide the party before a national election, thus greatly endangering a Republican victory in 2008. However, the desire of large cash contributions from the vast illegal labor lobby and the greed for votes from Hispanic race coalitions to keep these degenerate, immoral jerks in power overrides the rule of law, national security concerns, the overwhelming objections of their conservative voter base, and last but not least, common sense.
Conservatives need a party that not only supports their ideals but actually keeps their promises and delivers results. The Republican Party has continually failed to do this, finally culminating in its leadership seeking to throw conservatives under a bus after using them to get elected. I will no longer suffer from a political form of “beaten wife syndrome” and be a chump and a sucker for an organization that holds me and my ideology in contempt. Goodbye GOP. You claim that you don’t need conservatives to get elected in 2008 and beyond? Well come November, we’ll see.
There's no need for long faces. The Falcons are looking good. In fact, the Falcons have been checking out some of the best of the best quarter-backs, including Southern Cal's John David Booty.
Also, Falcon's Coach Smith just hired three new assistants.
So let's hear a woot woot for the Falcons! February 6 is right around the corner!

It’s been time for a long time. The only thing you can count on in each presidential election is that the GOP nomination ain’t going to a conservative.
When I came on board FR, it was as a long-time lurker to speak about disturbing trends I’d seen... A rush towards liberalism, embodied in the candidacy of Rudy Giuliani, and an apparent “oh, ok” with that on the part of many, many Freepers. My message, probably noted by few, was simple : I wasn’t a hardcore political junkie, but now I was going to make my stand: If Rudy Giuliani was the Republican nominee I could not in good conscience vote R in November. I would vote for whatever 3rd party could produce a candidate I could be proud of.
With Giuliani gone, that fire is likewise diminished. McCain has made mistakes, but is he worth throwing the GOP away over? I think there is still a chance to save the GOP from within.
But there is also still the possibility that the Republican party as we know it no longer exists, doesn’t welcome our input, and doesn’t care about our votes. Oh, they care about our votes to win. But no further.
My sentiment at this point is : candidate first. Show me a viable 3rd party candidate who would actually run (not one who needs to be coerced), shows some traction, would stand for strong conservative positions... and I’d join your 3rd party in a heartbeat.
But, without a strong candidate, it doesn’t matter what the party platform is. Politics is personality these days - that’s the only reason McCain and Obama are ahead.
Pissant,
Too many Mitt supporters are not ready to give up yet.
Wait a couple of months, they’ll be on the band wagon.
Didn’t 1992 teach us where a 3rd party gets us??????????
Morons.
O ye of little faith!
The God that gave us Reagan will provide a solution when the time comes.
At worst,McCain could retire after his first term and conservative vice president could pick up the mantle.
Defeating Hillary is the most important thing for our country right now.
Mccain is pro-life and has a 85% rating from the ACU. The sky is not falling.
Whoa. I thought the Founding Fathers were against standing armies and "entangling alliances."
It pains me to see where we have come to.
