McCain beats Romney in Florida GOP race

MIAMI - Sen. John McCain won a breakthrough triumph in the Florida Republican primary Tuesday night, edging past former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney and seizing precious campaign momentum for next week's string of contests across 21 states.

"It shows one thing: I'm the conservative leader who can unite the party," the Arizona senator said in a brief interview with The Associated Press. "It's a very significant boost, but I think we've got a tough week ahead and a lot of states to come."

The victory was worth 57 national convention delegates for McCain, a winner-take-all's haul and the largest single prize to date in the race.

Rudy Giuliani was in third place, his best showing of the campaign but possibly not good enough to warrant continuing.

Former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee trailed but told supporters he would forge on.

Aren’t polls still open in the Panhandle?

Yeah you’ve been saying this for the past month...

Tell me, when do you hit a true Republican state? Because McCain is ahead in practically every Super Tuesday state.

We could probably survive as a nation with McLame at the helm. I have serious doubts that we can with either Obama Hussein or Hitlery in that postition.

Maybe. On the other hand, if Hillary or Obama get in there, Republicans in Congress might show some spine and oppose their agenda. On the other hand, McCain might be able to bully the GOP into supporting his left-wing agenda on immigration, taxes, etc.

Big Business wants McCain in there. They picked him two years ago.

I'll suck it up and vote for McLame if he's the R candidate. I don't like much about him, but he's far better than anything the dims put out there.

No difference between the two.

Maybe he’ll pick a decent VP who can take over in 2009.

Suckabee will, as Ghouliani will tomorrow, eventually back McCain. As I said, it’s the Establishment (RINOs) against the lone conservative. Romney needs heavy hitters NOW and he needs them to go to the South and campaign for him while he’s in the Northeast and West...

Will NOT pull the lever for another RINO. The Jorge Bush/Nelson Rockefeller wing of the GOP treats conservatives exactly like democrats treat blacks. Besides, if mendacity, cynicism and self-aggrandizement have become the standard operating procedures of the GOP, as they've been for the democrat party all along, I will not support it. If McCain wins, the MSM will eat him for dinner in the run-off to the election.

This can be a momentum builder to Super Tuesday. The MSM has been pimping for McCain, which will give broader exposure than ad buys.

Romney is giving a great concession speech. I will go to bed before watching McCain open with, “My friends,...”

Okay. I admit it, I was wrong. The only thing I have to say is that it’s pretty stupid to have a Republican primary where Independents and Democrats get to vote.

I don’t think it’s possible that McCain could have won with Republican votes only.

The best scenario for us is that Romney roars back on Super Tuesday and McCain’s own McCain-Feingold bill prevents him from the necessary funds. Oh, how ironic!

Oh, I'd like to see that one! Irony for sure..

But..What then..

The HildaBeast would eat Mitt alive or so some say..

Not sure how running v. her bestest buddy Juan McCain
would go tho, don't really want to find out either. ;-)

“McCain win is pretty remarkable considering he was out spent 9 to 1”

I don’t think it is remarkable considering that he is running a campaign that Bill and Hillary would be proud of. That includes having the election laws changed the day of the election allowing Independents to re-register as Republicans, the day of the election. The dirty governor of the state endorsing you less then 3 days before the election, and telling lies about your opponent that they plan on withdrawing soon from Iraq. Oh, and lets not forget the help he is receiving from that person who calls himself a Christian, you know, Huckabee, who refuses to drop out, just to sink Romney. You remember that Huckabee is from Arkansas, the homestate of Bill. It’s not surprising to me at all. Hillary will be elected.

With a high turn out among conservatives and a GOP-only primary going to McCain?

Certainly seems like he can make the point.

I would need a bong hit for that one. I actually like Paul better than the RINOs, he’s entertaining and at least right on most things. But can’t vote for him in the middle of a war against the islamo scum that he does not understand. We need a Churchill, not a Chamberlain.

Well DUH.

Mitt will not play that well in the south and Huck is a idiot.

2 things in our favor. First he will more than likely loose it on the trail in the next few weeks. Second, if he does make it, and this will be the one thing many will moan about around here. McCain taps Thompson. McCain will come apart soon after taking office, we get Fred.

Not so.

Rush mentioned on his show today that some Independents in Florida actually voted in the REPUBLICAN primary.

They even identified themselves as Independents, yet they, the polling people, had “orders” to let the Independents vote. What’s up with that?

I say it again, Rush regret the day he didn't back Thompson.

Rush coming out for Romney at this point is like putting a band-aid on a gaping wound.

In my large circle of Republican friends I do not know one person that supports McCain. Can someone please explain where his votes are coming from?

With Hitlery at the helm, the Republicans in congress might just possibly grow a spine and resist her. With McCain, there is no chance.

The only way I'll vote for McCain is if he has one foot in the grave, the other on a banana peel and a solid conservative as VP.
