“This practice of teaching the test has been going on since the early 90s. At least here in Texas.”
It is now much worse. I know several teachers — all conservatives, one of which is in my immediate family. They are from several states, California, Colorado, Missouri, and all say the same thing: No Child Left Behind has changed curriculum so dramatically that it isn’t even funny. The primary goal is to score high on the federal and state-mandated tests, and THAT’S IT. The result is a lot of schools that only look good on paper, and a lot of students who do well on tests that they’ve been thoroughly, relentlessly prepped for, but not so well in anything else.
It’s a joke.
I’m no Bush basher, not by far, but if you want negative reactions from me when talking about the Pres, then just bring up these issues:
1. No Child Left Behind
2. Illegal Immigration policy
3. Government spending
That said, the rest of Bush’s speech tonight has been pretty good so far. I’ll give it an early 7 on a scale of 10.
A Free Iraq..... The dems just talked big — bill clinton played with little girls......
Kerry —to disarm Saddam Hussein because I believe that a deadly arsenal of weapons of mass destruction in his hands is a real and grave threat to our security.” 2002
Bill Clinton -”If Saddam rejects peace and we have to use force, our purpose is clear. We want to seriously diminish the threat posed by Iraq’s weapons of mass destruction program.”1998
“If Saddam rejects peace and we have to use force, our purpose is clear. We want to seriously diminish the threat posed by Iraq’s weapons of mass destruction program.” 1998
Albright “We must stop Saddam from ever again jeopardizing the stability and security of his neighbors with weapons of mass destruction.” 1998
Berger - He will use those weapons of mass destruction again, as he has ten times since 1983.” 1998
Pelosi —”Saddam Hussein has been engaged in the development of weapons of mass destruction technology which is a threat to countries in the region and he has made a mockery of the weapons inspection process.” 1998
Albright— “Hussein has ... chosen to spend his money on building weapons of mass destruction and palaces for his cronies.” 1999
Levin-— “We begin with the common belief that Saddam Hussein is a tyrant and a threat to the peace and stability of the region. He has ignored the mandate of the United Nations and is building weapons of mass destruction and th! e means of delivering them.” 2002
Gore-—”We know that he has stored secret supplies of biological and chemical weapons throughout his country.” 2002
Gore -— “Iraq’s search for weapons of mass destruction has proven impossible to deter and we should assume that it will continue for as long as Saddam is in power.” 2002
Ted Kennedy-—”We have known for many years that Saddam Hussein is seeking and developing weapons of mass destruction.” 2002
Robert Byrd “The last UN weapons inspectors left Iraq in October of 1998. We are confident that Saddam Hussein retains some stockpiles of chemical and biological weapons, and that he has since embarked on a crash course to build up his chemical and biological warfare capabilities. Intelligence reports indicate that he is seeking nuclear weapons...” 2002
Jay Rockefeller -—”There is unmistakable evidence that Saddam Hussein is working aggressively to develop nuclear weapons and will likely have nuclear weapons within the next five years ... We also should remember we have always underestimated the progress Saddam has made in development of weapons of mass destruction.” 2002
Hillary Clinton -—”In the four years since the inspectors left, intelligence reports show that Saddam Hussein has worked to rebuild his chemical and biological weapons stock, his missile delivery capability, and his nuclear program. He has also given aid, comfort, and sanctuary to terrorists, including al Qaeda members ... It is clear, however, that if left unchecked, Saddam Hussein will continue to increase his capacity to wage biological and chemical warfare, and will keep trying to develop nuclear weapons.” 2002
Bob Graham —”We are in possession of what I think to be compelling evidence that Saddam Hussein has, and has had for a number of years, a developing capacity for the production and storage of weapons of mass destruction.” 2002
LETS NOT FORGET -— PRESIDENT BUSH ACTED!!!
Maybe Hillary will pick Pelosi for VP :)
He is one of the truly greats, imo. History will tell I guess, but there is no doubt in my mind that his decisions are principle, not poll, driven.
Now we may disagree with him on certain principles, but, at least he has some, which distinguishes him greatly among all others currently seeking to replace him.
I, for one, am grateful for his Presidency.
What was President Bush’s statement that brought Cheney to his feet with applause?
This president has done nothing to combat illegal immigration. Did’t we have the congress during his first term? A republican present with a republican led congress, with nothing done to stop or reverse illegal immigration, our largest national security threat. Eight years later...nothing. Makes me sick when I think about it.
Good one, SCB!
“We have not been attacked since 2001. And it’s not from a lack of trying.”
LOL great caption.
I didn’t think she was!
bump.
“On the homefront, we will continue to take every lawful and effective measure to protect our country. This is our most solemn duty. We are grateful that there has not been another attack on our soil since September 11. This is not for a lack of desire or effort on the part of the enemy. In the past 6 years, we have stopped numerous attacks, including a plot to fly a plane into the tallest building in Los Angeles and another to blow up passenger jets bound for America over the Atlantic. Dedicated men and women in our Government toil day and night to stop the terrorists from carrying out their plans. These good citizens are saving American lives, and everyone in this chamber owes them our thanks. [applause] And we owe them something more: We owe them the tools they need to keep our people safe.”
