Cheney's daughter joins Romney camp

MIAMI - Liz Cheney, one of Vice President Dick Cheney's daughters, has signed onto Mitt Romney's presidential campaign as a senior foreign policy adviser.

Cheney most recently worked in the State Department handling Middle East affairs.

While her father and President Bush have both vowed to remain neutral as their fellow Republicans battle it out for the GOP nomination, the endorsement is likely to be well received among conservatives who comprise a critical primary voting bloc in both Florida, which votes Tuesday, and the 20-odd states voting Feb. 5.

Romney has also enjoyed the support of aides with ties to the Bush family, including top assistants to former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush and former President George H.W. Bush.

Liz Cheney, 41, is the elder of Dick and Lynne Cheney's two daughters. Her younger sister, Mary, has been more prominently in the public eye after revealing she is a lesbian and having a son last year with her partner, Heather Poe, despite the administration's opposition to gay marriage.

Liz Cheney, the mother of five children, said in a statement: "Throughout his campaign, (Romney) has distinguished himself as a leader who can guide our country with a clear vision for overcoming the threats we face today. ... I look forward to working with Governor Romney because he is the leader our country needs."

Romney said Liz Cheney brings the campaign "years of experience helping to formulate America's foreign policy and to advance democracy and reform in the Middle East."

Liz Cheney previously supported former Tennessee Sen. Fred Thompson, who dropped out of the race last week.

The Republican Party needs to follow Romney's lead and change hearts, not add another layer of Federal Law.

You mean like government-mandated health care??? With taxpayer-funded $50 abortions?

You mean the voters in the primary should have weeded the RINOS out...right?

Yes, of course. We just saw it happen right here on FR........again! We had a chance to support two conservatives (Hunter and Thompson) but many in the GOP wouldn't even support them in the primary.

Now, look at what we have left in our party to choose from. Nothing buy RINOS/LIBERALS. IF GOP posters on a "conservative" forum won't even support conservatives, it's no wonder that John Q. and Jane Public won't. Our candidates don't look much better than the RAT candidates do, and this is going to be the most important election of our lives. We've moved beyond the "lesser of two evils."

It beats the heck out of government provided health care. Most of the people I know without health insurance choose to be uninsured because they don't want to pay for it. My husband and I are sick of subsidizing the costs of health care for those who choose to not to be responsible for themselves.

We can disagree with the details but I think Romney opened up the discussion.

It’s mandatory

The New York Republican Party, displaying its unique committment to competitive elections, is suing to delist Duncan Hunter, Fred Thompson and Alan Keyes from the ballot next week.

It will be interesting to see how many votes Hunter and Thompson receive if their names remain on the ballot.

“I am, a true conservative and by that I mean I don’t want the government interfering in my life.”

I did not know there was two of us left.

Too many ‘conservatives’ even within this forum, beg for government interference for their own ends. Less taxes, less spending, less regulation, less government interfernece in the day to day lifes of Americans is what true conservatism represents.

How is it they are suing? Are we just suppose to sit here and take it?
