Cheney's daughter joins Romney camp
MIAMI - Liz Cheney, one of Vice President Dick Cheney's daughters, has signed onto Mitt Romney's presidential campaign as a senior foreign policy adviser.
Cheney most recently worked in the State Department handling Middle East affairs.
While her father and President Bush have both vowed to remain neutral as their fellow Republicans battle it out for the GOP nomination, the endorsement is likely to be well received among conservatives who comprise a critical primary voting bloc in both Florida, which votes Tuesday, and the 20-odd states voting Feb. 5.
Romney has also enjoyed the support of aides with ties to the Bush family, including top assistants to former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush and former President George H.W. Bush.
Liz Cheney, 41, is the elder of Dick and Lynne Cheney's two daughters. Her younger sister, Mary, has been more prominently in the public eye after revealing she is a lesbian and having a son last year with her partner, Heather Poe, despite the administration's opposition to gay marriage.
Liz Cheney, the mother of five children, said in a statement: "Throughout his campaign, (Romney) has distinguished himself as a leader who can guide our country with a clear vision for overcoming the threats we face today. ... I look forward to working with Governor Romney because he is the leader our country needs."
Romney said Liz Cheney brings the campaign "years of experience helping to formulate America's foreign policy and to advance democracy and reform in the Middle East."
Liz Cheney previously supported former Tennessee Sen. Fred Thompson, who dropped out of the race last week.
Wow. Liz Cheney is intelligent and a great addition to the Romney camp.
It must really be hard to see some Thompson supporters now going to the Romney camp. They were good, now they’re deluded because of Romney. :)
That makes NO sense. Hunter has said he is ENDORSING THE CANDIDACY of Huckabee. That means that Hunter himself is voting for Huckabee and telling his supporters to vote for Huckabee. What you are saying is that you don't trust the judgment of Hunter enough in who he would vote for President, but you would trust the judgment of Hunter enough to BE President.
Again, that makes no sense whatsover.
I thought the article was about Liz Cheney, the daughter of the VP, not the Second Lady.
I'm not sure he has any, and if he does, he sure hasn't been willing to govern with them in mind. So what good is it?
I’m pulling for Romney because he’s not McCain.
I wouldn't get too uppity if I were you. Just because Romney MAY be the lesser of the evils we have left to choose from, doesn't mean conservatives will support him with enthusiasm. Conservatives are generally the most principled people in politics and it's not easy to get excited about a flip-flopping plastic phony like Romney.
Oh, but he's such a *nice* guy. Yeah, nice enough to let Kennedy step all over him to win the Mass senate seat when Romney had a lead with a few weeks to go. Of course, he probably only had the lead by pandering as hard as he could to the pro-abortion and gay lobbies.
Imagine what Hillary would do to Romney. She'd kick his teeth in while he tries to smile and act like he has some teeth left.
He stuck by his principles and governed one of the most liberal area of the country. We play the hand we are dealt, but we do so with honor and dignity. I work with liberals all the time. There are some very decent people who have different views than do I. I cannot shout them down. I work with them. That doesn't mean I share their views; only that I respect their right to have different views. We then attempt to resolve those differences and move forward.
Not at all.
blah, blah, blah...
What does that have to do with governing as a pro-abortion and pro-gay governor?
Romney was able to govern in a pro-abortion, pro-gay state by standing up for his principles. Romney is definitely not "pro-gay" or "pro-abortion". The Republican Party needs to follow Romney's lead and change hearts, not add another layer of Federal Law. If you are anti-gay or anti-abortion, don't have a homosexual lifestyle or get an abortion. Talk about the down side of homosexuality and abortion to young people and engage people in a meaningful dialog that will change hearts. I am, a true conservative and by that I mean I don't want the government interfering in my life.
Well said.
Thanks. The point we seem to share is that behaving admirably is meaningless if we are forced to do so by threat of jail. I believe abortion and homosexuality are both destructive behaviors and that is what I teach my children and those who listen to what I have to say. I think Mitt Romney seems to lead by a moral example. I like that.
Now THAT’S a headline trying to get the religious conservatives to vote for McCain!!!
Wrong daughter. But thanks for playing. Go away now.
You know, a baby killing, globalist, gun grabbing, homo loving, good ole boy!
NO, thanks!
What exactly does that mean?
I'm pretty sure it means ALL there is to vote for now are RINO/LIBERALS.....
IOW, the GOP should have weeded the RINOS out long before now!
I'm pretty sure it means ALL there is to vote for now are RINO/LIBERALS..... IOW, the GOP should have weeded the RINOS out long before now!
You mean the voters in the primary should have weeded the RINOS out...right?
Riiiiight.
I guess that's why abortions are $50 in Massachusetts, and Mitt wants homos in the Boy Scouts.
Poor, poor, Mitt. He's just a victim.
Pass the barf bag.
