There is one exception, however, to Godwin’s law- when Hitler or Nazis are the actual subject of the conversation. When discussing Switzerland’s history, that cannot be overlooked. Godwin’s law is not meant to erase that episode of history, it is meant to stop a discourse from going off topic by applying false strawmen.

It’s pointless to argue that any nation or any person for that matter is perfect. I think we’d agree that this is the liberal’s territory for they tend to believe in ‘the perfectibility of man and the illimitable progress of society’ (Kirk, The Conservative Mind). So I’ll admit Switzerland is not perfect. And of course, neither is our country. I guess one area that we disagree is the importance of ‘national greatness’. I’d rather have less national greatness and more personal greatness.
