When Bush proposed a similar $600 give away in 2001, Democrat majority leader Tom Daschle said it was only enough to buy a muffler. Now the Democrats are saying this will save the US economy.

My family will probably end up paying 6000 in taxes for that 600 dollar check....
After they first leaked that it would be $800 each, it makes $600 per person seems cheap.
Either way, it’s not enough, and the fact that we’ll have to pay tax on it all over again makes it a very bad idea.
And anyone who actually makes money gets screwed....

Someone please help with the details. I am trying to calculate my rebate to buy my Dick Gephart/Tom Daschle muffler. (a good circa 2001 reference). I am the sole income earner in our family, my wife does not work. Do I get $300 and she gets nothing?
I assume we get $300 for my 4 year old son.
What about my other son who is due to come into this world next month?

Did it ever occur to the congresscritters that the economy would do even better all the time if they let us keep more of it to begin with?

Somehow taking money from one group of taxpayers and giving it to another group of taxpayers is somehow going to stimulate the economy.
And this is what Congress finally works together to enact. It is almost as if Congress thinks its low approval rating is still too high.

Since they didn’t pay taxes in the first place, the $600 can’t be called a rebate. Instead, call it ‘bate’. Heck, we can even spell it ‘bait’, that’s what it is. Politicians trolling for voters.
