F-16s at Scene of U.F.O. Sighting in Texas

As the hype around a U.F.O. sighting in Texas garners an unusual amount of attention, a local Air Force reserve base stepped up on Wednesday with a statement that either completely debunks the story or fuels it further, depending on who you ask and when you ask them.

In the days since the reported sighting — which one witness said was of an object in the sky “bigger than a Wal-Mart,” with the addition of many, many strobe lights — officials at the airbase initially said that none of their aircraft were flying on the night in question.

But they changed their story on Wednesday: now they say that 10 F-16 fighter jets were indeed airborne between 6 p.m. and 8 p.m. local time that night, on a training mission. That includes the 5-minute period when unidentified flying objects were sighted.

So is it time to say, “So much for aliens in Texas dairy country”?

Not if you ask The Associated Press, which published that line in an early version of its report before switching to a much more noncomittal lead paragraph.

One of the people expressing doubts about the F-16 explanation was Kenneth Cherry of the Mutual UFO Network, who asserted, “This supports our story that there was U.F.O. activity in that area.” He was apparently referring to one witness’s claim that the fighter jets were there to chase the U.F.O.

Don’t tell Dennis Kusinich. It would burst his bubble.

If it was a large UFO...I bet the USAF would send nearly dozen planes to intercept... :-)

If you're ever abducted and butt-probed, you can thank me that the probe is warm. It happened to me and I'm the guy who insisted that they warm the probe.

Seems to me an F16 is gonna move pretty fast, make a lotta noise, and strafe a few bunnies. So it could still be UFO

So how do they get all the Air Traffic Controllers to just start whistling and looking away from their screens like they were on The Simpsons?

"My God... a flying Wal-Mart... I’m scared..."

Not only that, the inscriptions on one side of the UFO were in Spanish.

THere were reports in the press at the time that the local afb in phoenix had scrambled fighters etc, which were later denied or altered iirc, at the time of that incident.

If something was visible in the sky and it wasn’t theirs, of course they scrambled fighters (duh).

It's the threat of "the probe" that gets their cooperation.

” I’m the guy who insisted that they warm the probe. “

Fair enough. But are you the one who suggesting having it vibrate? Cuz that’s just plain nasty.

Dang! I never thought of that. They must be pretty imaginative. Or maybe they abducted Richard Simmons.

“Seems to me an F16 is gonna move pretty fast, make a lotta noise, and strafe a few bunnies. So it could still be UFO”

I have no doubt the Air Force has stuff that you would be amazed at. I live in Nevada. I’ve got a friend who works on radio tramsmitters that are located in very remote areas. He told me that he once saw a B-52 (yes, a B-52) flying a couple of hundred feet off the ground and following the terrain as it moved up and down. Even more amazing than that was he didn’t hear a sound. He said it passed him close enough that he could see the pilot and the pilot saw him. All he could hear was the wind vortex created by the passing aircraft. He was dumbfounded by the experience.

If our Air Force guys can do that with a B-52 (a huge plane), I have no doubt that they can do stuff that we don’t know about yet. The Stealth program instigated a lot of UFO sightings at the time as well.
