Well, we know that Romney doesn't share Duncan Hunter's view of trade. I do think Romney understands China, probably better than Duncan Hunter in terms of our economy, if not militarily.

Mitt Romney Remarks:

FREE TRADE "My growth factors include free trade. There will be a growing clamor for isolation and protectionism. That might feel good for a few years. But then, we'd be passed by the products that met the new world competitive standards like we were standing still. Our cars would be as out of date as the Soviets' were after their experiment in protectionism. Our barriers against services would be thinner than air. Protectionism would virtually guarantee that America would become a second tier economy, with a second class standard of living. It sounds nice not to have to compete, but if you don't compete, you start down a road that leads to economic collapse.

"At the same time, we have to make sure the rules of free trade are fair. It's time to make sure China's markets, for example, are opened to our goods. And it's time to make sure they enforce our intellectual property rights as well as they enforce their own - try to counterfeit a Beijing Olympic tee-shirt and see what happens to you. No, the easy money for criminal counterfeiters is in software, entertainment, pharmaceuticals, and high tech - the things that America exports.

Hunter never said do not trade with China he just wanted a new and enforced trade deal that actually benefits the workers of the USA instead of a trade deal that puts the USA companies at a disadvantage.
