Tens of thousands of abortion opponents took to the cold, gray streets of Washington yesterday, buoyed by a recent report that the number of abortions in the United States had hit the lowest level in years and vowing to continue the fight.
Many of the participants in the March for Life were young people, many from religious clubs and church-run schools from as far away as Ohio, Texas and Tennessee....
In many ways, the march resembled a gigantic pep rally, with smiling teenagers in matching scarves or sweat shirts holding school banners high as they moved along Constitution Avenue NW toward the Supreme Court....
"It's illegal to kill someone walking down the street, so it should be illegal to kill someone in the womb," said Topher Boehm, 17, a member of the Pro-Life Club at the Jesuit College Preparatory School of Dallas. "This is the social justice issue of our era, and I want to do something about it."
Kelsey Wilson, 16, and Michelle Caulder, 17, along with their group from a Catholic church in Indianapolis, waved "Defend Life" signs as they maneuvered through the crush of people. This was their third Washington march, and they plan to keep coming, they said, until abortions are outlawed.
"I think abortion is wrong. People have reasons why they think it's right," Caulder said. "But it's wrong all the time."
...At a youth concert and Mass at Verizon Center yesterday morning, a message from Pope Benedict XVI was read to more than 20,000 youths. The pope, who will visit the United States in April, thanked them "for promoting respect for the dignity and inalienable rights of every human being, including the smallest and most defenseless members of our human family."

Catholic and pro-life ping!
That's why MSM ignores us. For most folks, if it's not on the 6 O'Clock News ... it doesn't exist.
Three 18 year old men from our Parish Youth Group received their 1st and 2nd Degrees last night to our Parish K of C Council.
“Tens of thousands of abortion opponents took to the cold, gray streets of Washington yesterday,”
The AP reported the number as ‘thousands’; if the WP says ‘tens of thousands’, it’s safe to assume both numbers are low. Remember, the ‘million man march’ and the ‘million moms’? It’s the MSM’s new math.
Things like this, 10’s of thousands at a many Christian youth rallies, and 100’s of thousands of youth at rallies with the Pope are things the MSM ignores like good news in Iraq.
Really read this story very carefully by the Washington Compost and compare it to the Washington Times article and others. The bias and the way it’s written are laughable.
The Washington Post is nothing if not relentless in pushing it’s worldview on the unsuspecting. Just an observation.
If anyone wants me to point out the ways it’s biased, let me know and I will be happy to enlighten anyone.
I believe today’s youth can’t understand abortion because the availability of birth control and abstinance.
I have wondered for years how a woman wants to control her body but doesn’t have the common sense to use birth control to prevent an unwanted children. The women that baffle me the most are those that already have 2 or 3 children.
Guess you can’t change stupid.
I was thinking this would be another made up trick created by the vast right wing conspiracy but then I saw it was from the Washington Post and not the Washigton Times.
Probably buried on the back pages though.
And we won’t hear a peep from the likes of Brian Williams.
Actually, it was on page A-03.
WOW. Still not holding my breath for this to be allowed out anywhere else.
I cannot understand a woman willing to murder her own unborn baby. That is disgusting and so evil. I am really encouraged by reading of the youthful participants in the pro-life marches. All these aging boomers were the ones who got us into this death culture. When the youth takes over, I think America may get back to its God given routes. Let’s hope so.
“The MSM may ignore the March and pro-lifers all they want, but the youthful vigor of the pro-life movement must scare them and their liberal allies.”
I heard there were around 30,000 college students at the march. Laura Ingraham said she saw so many young people, even in their teens.
At least Jim Lehrer covered it. Maybe I’ll watch his news instead of ABC from now on, since I don’t have cable.
