Everyone has been bitchin and moanin since 1988 about the quality of the candidates. A rock ribbed Reaganite jumps in the race, the foremost expert on all things military, the top man against illegal immigration for the last 25 years, the most unapologetic, un PC conservative, with a impressive record of accomplishment to boot, and the conservatives ignore him to death.
Good move. Real good move.
as a fredhead, i have to say, pissant, our candidates bear the lion’s share of responsibility for their poor showing. you can claim that conservatives ignored Hunter and fredheads can rail against fox news for their negative slant on Fred’s candidacy from the get-go, but at rock bottom, a losing candidate only has himself to blame. they did not attract the support necessary to propel their candidacies. THAT is their job. sitting around being a hail-fellow-well-met conservative is fine, but it doesn’t get you elected. I feel i can say this because the same applies to Fred. it is simply wrong to blame the voters for not voting for them, when it was the CANDIDATE’s job to EARN THAT VOTE.
Being a good candidate isn’t just about having a good issues checklist. It’s about being able to persuade. Persuade people to believe in your cause, persuade people to give you their money, and their vote.
Conservatives are supposed to be all about personally responsibility. Yet nobody on FR wants to take a critical look at their candidate and recognize their flaws are what did them in, it’s always somebody else’s fault.
If Hunter couldn’t gain traction, it’s HIS FAULT as a candidate. Not the fault of anyone else. Same applies to my candidate Thompson. In the end he wasn’t a good candidate, either. I’m not going to be a crybaby and blame the voters.
Well put, couldn't agree more.
