Carl Cameron says it'll become offical sometime later this week.

Oh well, we're doomed. Let's hope it'll be minimal damage until 2012.

Fred proved one thing. He was never in this race to win, so why was he there?

BS. The one who wasn't in it to win was Hunter Duncan. He didn't even try.

I am a conservative first, and Republican second. There are no conservatives left in the race, so I will not vote for any Republican candidate. Unfortunately, it will take a Carter to get another Reagan.

I am a Republican Party officer, but our party has betrayed us.

Adios, mofos.

No choice. It has to be Romney now.

Anybody but McCain.

At least we’d have ‘change’ and it would be fun to watch.

That's the truth!

I don't think Ron Paul stands a chance, but if he were somehow elected, I think the responsibilities of the office would dawn on him, and he'd move more carefully than he talks.

Also, Congress would keep him in line.

Ding Ding Ding!!! We have a winner. For the reasons you stated, is why I could not get on the Fredhead Bandwagon. He was just too cozy with McCain. Every Senator that supported him in 2000 has been a major disappointment:

DeWine
Hagle
Grahamnesty

Thompson chaired his campaign. Would not surprise me if Fred doesn’t endorse him. YUCK!

I was for Duncan Hunter, but now I am solidly behind Romney. I know he has his issues, but I at least trust him more than McCain. Most Mormons I have know are very honest, family oriented and hard working. Looks like Mitt to me.

The rest of it still earns him a failing grade.

You do realize that most Americans want the troops to come home, right? How will Romney or McCain win over the independents?

If we want to WIN, we have to work WITHIN the Party Processes, and COMPROMISE with those we call RINOs to advance any kind of a conservative agenda

A "win" under such circumstances would be no win at all. I'd rather lose to the devil I know that "win" with a turncoat, a compromiser, or an opportunist.

So Sen. Thompson has dropped out? It's far from being the end of the world. I would likely have voted for him, but only as the least of two evils. Both the Democrat and Republican parties are hopelessly corrupt; no matter which party wins, the big business community, the technocrats, the educational unions, and the federal bureaucracy will still have the real power in our country.

Nothing short of a collapse of the federal government will be required for any real political change to occur; if such a collapse ever happens, however, a lot of innocent people will get hurt, and nobody wants to see that.

Therefore, I do not worry too much about national politics. No matter who is elected, abortion will remain legal, invaders will still pour across our southern border, Muslims will still plot to kill us all, and I'll still have to fill out a federal tax return every year. For these things to change, a change in culture will be required -— a spiritual renaissance, in which the materialist, utilitarian, postmodern Zeitgeist that underlies our society is replaced by the traditional Judeo-Christian culture of pre-Modern times.

That renaissance is the true goal for which we should strive, not some phony, temporary revolution at the polls. If we revive the culture, the politics will take care of themselves. Good culture = good country.

Hunter pulled out.

It may not be over for him if there is a brokered convention.

Your reply to my post is bizarre. It has nothing to do with what I posted. My post was factual. Your rant was just plain dopey.

2. Romney: is a radical social liberal who repented JUST AS he entered the race. His redeeming value is that he’s filthy rich and willing to teach all of us how to become rich (gods) in our own right.

On the plus side, he has one thing that I haven’t seen from any of the other candidates: optimism.”

Correct.

And the wailing here saying that “we’re all doooomed!” shows that in a sense, true, we AREN’T the party of Reagan. That’s not b/c a conservative like Thompson got beat. It’s b/c we are a party of cry babies who latch our fortunes to one man who never smiles. good grief. We aren’t doomed. If Reagan were here, he would tell us the same thing. And then he would turn around and campaign for McCain in the general, if Romney loses.

So, do we want to be the party of Reagan? Or not?

THANK YOU FRED. Thank you for giving us hope that somewhere in the ranks of the GOP that there are still a few thourbred Republicans left. Having you in the White House would of been like having Davy Crockett back in Washington. You are a a no-nonsense leader who doesn’t wait for pollsters but follows the maxim: “Be sure you are right and then go ahead”.” God-Speed my friend and it was an honor to be a part of the Vets For Fred.
I too am proud to have made my three small donations to your cause, Fred. I wish you could have won. Good look to you.

"We will live to fight another campaign cycle and hopefully we will find somebody good next time, or, ideally, several good guys and let the best man win."

Works fine (only) assuming Hitlery or Obama screw up by pushing their socialist agenda too quickly (first term), outrun their RINO cohorts, and scare the electorate straight.

If "we" elect another empty promise candidate (out a field with nothing else but liberals claiming otherwise, and Ron Paul) the party will simply continue down it's current "we're almost just like them" death spiral.

Keep asking yourself which bodes the worst.
