The reason I referred you to Reeves’ book is because he provides a lot more evidence. If your library doesn’t have it, they can get it through interlibrary loan.

I checked out the review of the Reeves book at Amazon and it seems that it is his contention that Kennedy and the crew were not alert when they were hit by the destroyer and in fact were hit in the daylight not the darkness of early morning.
And the evidence for this claim of dereliction of duty is?
