But I still worry a lot over who McCain would nominate to the Supreme Court.

Maybe someone like Harriet Miers?

Was he strongly for “Sandy” O’Connor, but he was not in the Senate then?

Am I the only one who thinks the Miers thing was some plot thought up by Karl Rove in order to pave the way for the Roberts nomination? It did a great job at firing up the base. President Bush never counted on getting stabbed in the back by McCain, Graham, et al. and their gang of 14.

“Maybe someone like Harriet Miers?”

Ouch. Good point.

However, President Bush withdrew Miers after the conservative outcry.

My sense is that McCain treats every good faith disagreement as a challenge to his honor or integrity, and thus would stick with a bad Supreme Court nominee:

1) as a matter of personal pique and,

2) because he seems to enjoy outraging conservatives just for the fun of it.

Bite your tongue! Off!

Then wait until it grows back and bite it off again.
