Is this only possible?
It could maybe gather conservatives and christians beyond the GOP destabilizing the dems...

It might be possible, but it wouldn't be good politics. If Fred's the nominee, I think the southern social conservatives would come around and back him. Fred would need someone (esp. a non-southerner) to bring in other voters.

No. I can guarantee that neither man would work with each other. Thompson doesn't respect Huckabee. And Huckabee hates Thompson for his "attacks" on Huck's record and gaffes.
